The sweetest little game reserve on the Garden route. There’s no big cats as it’s fairly small but you will have a fantastic time getting up close to giraffes, elephants and other wonderful animals. Every time I come back to Plett I come here!

We were two couples, one local and one from Canada. We were unable to go on safari but still wanted to see some animals. This was a great experience. We all got on to an open safari vehicle (elevated, open sides so you can see the most) and driven around the preserve for two hours. The ride is bumpy and a little uncomfortable but I can tell you from experience that these vehicles are very typical for even “proper” safaris. You are driving off road and can’t expect it to be like the motorway. We saw a great variety of animals. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the things we saw. He could also explain how the animals came to be on the preserve (many are rescues) and how their ecosystem works. One of our group was a keen birder and happy to borrow the guide’s binoculars and take advantage of his knowledge. Be sure to bring yours! It was also a pleasant surprise NOT to be assailed for tips, asked to purchase photos, or having to exit by a gift shop. This place is just about the animals and all about the animals. Highly recommended.

Ted our Ranger was very knowledgeable and gave us lots of information about the animals we spotted on the tour of the reserve. We had some very close up experiences of the Elephants, Giraffes and my favourite the Rhino - a fabulous experience. An excellent way to spend a couple of hours on our journey across South Africa.

Never done anything like this before so was unsure of what we would see and how informative it would be. We had a great time, apart from Hippos we saw every type of animal they had. Although they hippos only showed their ears. We went mid morning so would have probably been better early or later in the day to see these. Guide was very good and got us as close as he could without frightening the animals. Although this is a game reserve it did feel like they were in the wild and could roam wherever they liked. Would have been nice to be able to have had a drink there, but no catering facilities.

A great two hour drive on the reserve with Tertius. He is a resourceful game ranger that gave a lot of information about the animals’ behavior and how they react in the wild. We saw a myriad of antelope, buffalo, hippo, rhino, elephants, crocodile, zebras, wildebeest and resident cows. The drive on the reserve was an excellent destress from city life. As mentioned, if not for Tertius’ wealth of information, the drive would have been less exciting. We saw so many animals that the cost was not even a factor. I recommend the drive at the reserve to everyone who wants to see animals up close and without the fanfare of ‘where is the big five!’
