Overview

This is the best day tour from Porto to the Arouca 516 Suspension. With a very convenient pick-up from central Porto you will head straight to Arouca. In Arouca there is a brief stop where you are invited to taste the local specialities, enjoy the green area just outside the monastery and to get ready for the connection between Arouca and the 516 Arouca. Around 20 minutes after departing from Arouca we reach the bridge and the Paiva Walkways! For the next 3 to 4 hours (depending on the pace of the group, weather conditions, picture times, etc.) you will spend your time crossing the bridge and walking along the Paiva river in a wooden walkway. After this great hike we follow a mountain road for 15 minutes and have lunch in a family owned restaurant in Alvarenga! The ride back to Porto will last for around 90 minutes. Be brave! Join us!

    This is a town famous for it's monastery and typical sweets made from ancient monastery recipes. On our stop on the way to the 516 Suspension Bridge and Paiva Walkways, we can definitely encourage you to try it the sweets to get your energy levels up for the hike!

    Enjoy the 8 km walk along the Paiva River and learn more about this region and Portugal. This hike requires good physical condition!

  • 516 Arouca - Ponte Suspensa

    Experience the thrill of crossing one of the longest suspension bridges in the world! This structure is the perfect choice for adventure seekers and nature lovers. From the height of its 175m meters and see through floor you will be able to enjoy a great view down to Paiva River.

  • Alvarenga

    Lunch time is a very important part of our day! In Alvarenga you will be able to try the magnificent Arouquesa DPO meat. Eat in a family owned restaurant and enjoy the local "Vinho Verde".

Beautiful Scenic Hike

The scenery along the hike was beautiful and crossing the suspension bridge was an amazing experience. Petito was a knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide and driver. An excellent lunch at a local restaurant was also included and featured plenty of good food.

Petito was our tour guide to the Arouca Suspension Bridge and Paiva Walkway. Petito was an excellent guide, enthusiastic and passionate about sharing the beauty and history of the region. The tour itself was incredible and well-organized with Petito taking care of every detail to ensure our comfort and safety. Lunch was included and delicious, and they accommodated to our food preferences. Best tour ever! And Petito also a great driver!

Everything was great! Diogo was a perfect guide, sharing interesting information and answering all my questions. Additionally, Detours was very responsive and handled all issues in the best way possible. I also want to note that, while the lunch description only mentioned meat, there were various options available, including vegetarian and pescatarian choices.

Lovely walk in the air and along the river

This was such a fun tour. Our guide Ana was incredibly friendly and so well informed about our destinations. She answered all our questions and made everything so enjoyable. The Arouca suspension bridge is an experience not to be missed. The guides were very alert and safety conscious while giving everyone lots of time to take pictures and ask questions Lunch was at a fantastic restaurant where we got to sample authentic Portuguese fare. Everything smelled and tasted so good! Unfortunately wildfires in the area last month affected the Paiva walkway so we were only able to do half the distance. We were still able to enjoy a nice walk along the river without feeling rushed
