Overview

Kayak one of the few remaining sections of undeveloped, scenic coastline in California, home to more than 1,500 plant and animal species. This popular, 3-hour kayaking trip features regular wildlife encounters, beautiful coastal views and some time to swim (optional).

Meeting points

Take exit #110 for Winchester Canyon Rd toward Hollister Ave. Continue onto Calle Real for .3mi. Turn left on Cathedral Oaks Rd over the freeway. Turn right onto Hollister Ave. In .6 miles turn left into a parking lot for the beach where your guide will meet you & walk you down to the beach.

This activity ends back at the meeting point.

Itinerary

Your guide will outfit the members of your group and offer a thorough kayaking lesson on shore. Once we are on the water, we will tour a total of 3 miles, stopping in pristine kelp beds to learn about Marine Ecology and the Santa Barbara Channel, and hopefully kayaking with dolphins and sea lions.

Minimum numbers apply. Our kayak tours require a minimum of 2 participants to run. There is a possibility of cancellation after confirmation if there are not enough passengers to meet requirements. In the event of this occurring, you will be offered an alternative or full refund.

Children under 5 are not permitted. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult in a double kayak.
What you will need:
Sun Screen (SPF 30 or higher).
A full water bottle. One liter or larger - please help us reduce our environmental footprint by bringing a re-usable bottle
A hat with a brim.
A beach towel
Beach shoes or flips.
Sunglasses with a neck strap such as "Chums" or “Croakies”
Swim suit or swim trunks
Sweatshirt or sweater and a dry change of clothes
Waterproof camera (optional)
Lycra rashguard. (optional)
Neoprene booties. (optional)
To ensure proper equipment, please provide your heights & weights. Thank you.
Double kayaks are automatically provided. Singles are available for odd number parties. Guests over 230lbs will be provided a single kayak.

Beauty on the water

The water was flat and no wind; an absolutely lovely day to be on the water. We went out on Nov 30 and it was sunny and gorgeous, I should have worn shorts and I didn’t need all the layers I had bundled myself with (good to have nonetheless). Thanks again Connor; thus was the 2nd trip out and it did not disappoint

This is my third tour with SB Adventure Company over the course of 10 years or so. I always find the guides to have deep knowledge and also the skills to make the adventure safe and enjoyable. It is always a feel-good experience with long-lasting memories.

Gaviota Coast

It's always a good time with the Santa Barbara Adventure Company and our kayak around the Gaviota coast was no exception. Luke, our guide, was super enthusiastic and accommodating when it came to the needs of our group, making our trip relax and educational. Not a big day for wildlife, but saw some black cormorants. We especially enjoyed docking in a secluded beach where we had a bit of time to poke around and find some surprising shells and critters.

My whole group fully enjoyed the tour from Haskell’s Beach. We had a range of kayaking experience, and our guide Luke did an excellent job of accommodating all of our experience and comfort levels— while showing us undersea, seabird and beach environments. He is an excellent outdoor educator and I’m glad we had the opportunity to spend time with him.
