Overview

we created an unique experience about the art of jewelry! By creating the ring, you will learn how emeralds become the most important and precious stone for Colombians, and its influence in the colombian society and economy. We will work in the middle of the emerald and jewelry cluster of Bogota, one of the leader cities of this kind of industry in south america!

Meeting points

We will meet at Café el Dorado. Next to the Gold Museum. Important to have WhatsApp. We will let you know the meeting time. It could be 9am or 2pm depending on the availability

Itinerary

Colombia is known as the coffee country, well, we got much more history linked to the “green gold”. Emeralds are part of the selected group of precious stones and the 60% of them in the world are originally from Colombia. Become part of the Emerald legend, by creating a ring with your own hands. This tour starts by having an introduction about the importance of emeralds for precolonial and colonial culture. We will go through the emerald and jewelry district to learn about the history of the precious metals and stones and its influence in Colombian culture. We will take a look at the emerald market to see the different minerals and qualities. Then we will work on your new ring, where you will decide all! the design, the stone and material, by the personal advisory of a orfebre (jewelry master) who teaches you how to do every single step.

I learned a lot about the history of emeralds in Colombia and I loved making my own ring. The team guides you step by step but you do actually make the ring from the forge to the polishing!

Time flew by. Unique experience. Hint. Have a ring design in mind before arriving. You are also able to purchase larger and better stones if you wish. Columbia pesos are better, but they take credit cards for the larger stone. You are guided each step of the way. From melting the silver to polishing the ring. I read all the reviews and you will not be disappointed with this experience. A wonderful momento to bring home.

It was a unique and great experience to do in Bogota/Colombia. The guide, Juan, was amazing. He gave us a rundown about the emerald culture and then took us to the studio, where I chose my emerald and the ring style. I am so happy with my ring and the experience. Thank you, Juan and the workshop team!

The host and master artisans were so helpful in guiding you through the process. It is well worth the cost with the materials and 3 hours for the workshop. A special thanks for accommodating my 8 year old (with help of mom) who was thrilled that she was able to make her design come to life. They were so careful with her and explained everything to her level. Perfect for making family rings!
