Overview

Our tour is about learning the interesting story of how a banana enclave became the tourist capital of Costa Rica, accompanied by old photographs, local guides, and interactive experiences. How did the United Fruit Company come to Quepos? What happened to the banana crops? Visit with us the first neighborhood of Quepos and learn about our history and our authentic local cuisine. Together, we will learn to craft bracelets and make authentic tortillas or traditional empanadas and drip the coffee, in the unique Costa Rican style. We provide the best Costa Rican experience all our tours are authentic interactions with Costa Rican people: street vendors, housewives, and their families. We’ll show you the “everyday” Costa Rica. Meet the Pura Vida! Together we’ll visit common places to meet beautiful people, where the warmth of their welcome will make you feel at home. Hosted in the cozy home of a local, this hands-on activity invites you to roll up your sleeves and dive into the art of making classic empanadas or seasoned "aliñada" tortillas from scratch. As you cook, you’ll learn the stories and traditions behind each dish, creating an authentic lunch featuring fresh, local ingredients and mouthwatering Tico flavors. But the experience doesn’t stop there! You’ll also discover the secrets of brewing coffee the Costa Rican way, using traditional methods that highlight the country’s rich coffee culture. Edutainment! The Perfect Mix of Cultural Knowledge & Activities

Be prepared to walk. It’s relatively flat, but approximately 10,000 steps in total. John (our guide) was extremely knowledgeable & personable. I feel like I could write a book about Quepos now!! lol. We loved the added touch of stopping at the home of a local to see make adorable bracelets & cook a meal from scratch. It was all perfect!

Best tour of our trip to Costa Rica!

Our family loved everything about this tour! We were lucky to be the only ones on the tour and John went out of his way to accommodate our needs and interests. We love getting off the beaten path and meeting locals when we travel. This tour brought us into a local family’s home where we were greeted with warmth and kindness. We learned to make the bracelets we’d seen for sale at the beach and to make empanadas from scratch - delicious!

Once in a lifetime opportunity to be welcomed into a traditional Costa Rican home in a section of the city that is less traveled by tourists. Book this experience to learn and to appreciate Costa Rican history and culture. John is a fabulous guide who wholeheartedly spends the time making sure guests are comfortable and having a great time. Spending 4 hours with the host family wasn’t enough! I felt loved by the hosts, their kids, grandkids, family pets and even some chickens! Sit back, chill and enjoy the laid back atmosphere and awesome food you actually get to make! Puta vida.

Excellent tour! Tour Guide John is passionate about his job, and the tour appealed to both grandparents and kids in our group! This was one of our favourite tours! We strolled around Quepos a bit, learning along the way, then took the ferry to El Cocal where we went to a local’s home and learned how to make bracelets and empanadas, and enjoyed some fresh juice and coffee!
