Overview

Alta’s stable, cold climate and easy access to the Finnmark Mountain Plateau has made Alta a dogsledding hotspot in Europe. Mushers from all over Norway and Europe have settled here to be able to dedicate as much of their time as they can to dogsledding. Our family joined their ranks over three decades ago. We have spent the years racing and learning about dogsledding. This knowledge is the foundation of the dogsledding trips that we offer our guests. We will take you to the tracks along the Alta River and the path where Europe’s best mushers race towards the finish line for the famous Finnmarksløpet. You don’t get much closer to Norway’s dogsledding culture than this. The frozen landscape is like nothing you’ll ever see, glittering in the sunlight and bathed in shades of blue, pink and purple during the light of the polar night. Feel the kiss of the cold on your cheeks and listen to the silence of the vast Arctic nature.

Enjoy the Arctic the way it’s meant to be enjoyed; from the dog sled. Join our team of Alaskan Huskies and let them take you on an unforgettable ride through the stunning Northern-Norwegian nature around Alta. Tour overview: - Pick up at the Alta Tourist Information - We provide the necessary clothing - Safety instructions about how to handle a dog team - Approximately 60 minutes dog sledding (depending on weather conditions) - Storytelling and easy serving in our Lavvo - Transport back to the Alta Tourist Information

  • The minimum age to participate in this experience is 5 years old. The minimum age for driving solo is 16 years old. 5 - 12-year-old children are required to sit between an adult's legs on the sled. 13 - 15-year-old children are allowed to sit independently on the sled.

Beyond superb

We booked ( through P&O. Bit wary as some of experiences haven’t been very good. But this!!!! This was beyond amazing. The 4 hours we spent at Holmen Huskies was so immersive. The owner was knowledgeable and friendly, the husky sledding was totally mind blowing and the opportunity to meet the huskies was tremendous. We had plenty of opportunities to get close and personal with the huskies and given to lots of interesting information. A sit around a blazing fire in the teepee with warm drink and biscuits warmed us up between outdoor activities. Well worth the money. Yes, it wasn’t cheap but once we understood the maintenance of the huskies and all that the centre offers it was worth every NOK. Would definitely recommend and we are definitely going back.

Excellent husky sled experience

Great experience, the highlight of our cruise. Everything was very well organised from the booking process to the taxi pickup service and the provision of top class winter clothing. The guide was exceptional in her knowledge of the huskies and in her driving. Highly recommend this experience.

Great dog-sledding experience!

We had a great time on the dog sledding excursion and recommend this outfitter for other travelers! The huskies (and staff) seem very happy and eager to be out running the trails. There were around 9 of us on the tour with 4 guides. I rode while my partner "drove" (musher) and we switched midway through the ~1.5 hours we were on the trail. After the dog sledding, we warmed up in the lavvu with a birch fire and hot coffee/tea/cake and then got to spend a while petting as many of the dogs as we wanted (they were all very friendly pups and eager for all the pets!). It is very cold in early December (-15 C when we were picked up from Sorrisniva at 9am); the company provides suits, mittens, goggles, and boots to help keep you warm over your personal warm clothes. The company provided/offered a return transfer from Sorrisniva.

Wonderful experience, i am so happy i took it directly as a small group. They could give as the proper clothing and go for more than one our ride ,great experience. I could stay there more and more a play with the dogs

Brage, the owner of the kennel drove our sled! He was kind and friendly, answering all our questions. Was an exciting dog sled trip on a snowy path. We learned about dogsledding, met the dogs, and had a great time talking with the employees who were all very friendly.
