Best way to see the history of the city

Our tour guide Gius was very knowledgable and enthusiastic about the facts he was telling us and the sights we were seeing. It’s always nice when I can take my other half (a doctor of history) around a historical tour and even he learns something new. The below ground access areas were also fantastic, not least being able to see what’s been built on top of them since. The staff at the town hall were also very helpful and informative when we were looking for information prior to our tour. It’s well worth the price of a ticket, and a fantastic way to see this beautiful city, especially if you’re pushed for time but want to get some highlights in.

Julius (not his real name!) gave us an exceptional tour. His detailed and passionate knowledge of Roman life and history was astonishing. The tour gave us an insight into Roman Chester at a level that we hadn't expected possible. Thank you Julius. Ging into the basement of a coffee shop and seeing the massive pillar supports to the Roman temple was truly extraordinary
