Overview

At Fiordland Jet we want to take tourism back to what it use to be! With a small group of 11-13 passengers per boat, our tours are all about making a personal connection with each one of our guests. This is an interactive tour - not just a thrill ride. We are the only commercial scenic operators on these waterways, which gives guests a truly unique opportunity to experience the magic of Fiordland without long lines or crowds

Itinerary

Begin your tour at our office to get fitted for your bike and helmet plus a spray coat and life jacket. Take a short bus ride to the boat ramp where you'll board the boat with ease thanks to convenient ramps. After a short safety brief it's time to hit the water! Travel down the Upper Waiau River with crisp air rushing by, crystal-clear waters below and stunning views all around. Pause along the way to learn about the area and it's rich history, have some laughs, spot trout, re-imagine Lord of the Rings from 3 film locations and listen to native birds as your driver quiets the engine. Enjoy plenty of photo opportunities plus high-speeds and spins - which are great fun for all! Emerge onto Lake Manapouri and embrace the silence while surrounded by towering mountains and a view that will leave you speechless. Disembark into the National Park for a short guided nature stroll among native flora and fauna. Jump back in the boat and head back up river for more FUN! Back at the boat ramp your bike will be waiting to travel the designated cycle trail 10km/7mi along the river's edge back to Te Anau's town centre. The trail is well-formed and just requires a moderate level of fitness.

Far more than just another jet boat ride

We were staying for 2 nights in Te Anau and to be frank, we wondered how we’d pass the time as the town seems like little more than a stopover location for those en route to Milford Sound. We were therefore delighted to find a great way of spending 4-5 hours. The Fiordland Jetboat is a very well run operation. From start to finish all the staff were very professional and friendly. They bus you from Te Anau to the Kawarau River and kit you out with warm waterproof jackets and beanie hats if you want them. This way you can stay both warm and dry. Our jetboat guide - John - was an excellent guide; funny and informative in equal measure. The experience lasts for around 2 hours and is combines the high speed & 360 degree spins that you’d expect to get on all jet boat rides with 3 stops at LOTR locations as well as a short nature walk. The scenery is stunning particularly when the boat emerges onto Lake Manapouri. At the end of the ride we had booked to return to Te Anau on e-bikes along the riverside track. This is something we’d thoroughly recommend as once again, the scenery is amazing. The 11kms takes around 90mins depending on how many times you want to stop. On our return to Te Anau, we extended our ride on some of the lakeside trails which the e-bikes make light use of. All in all, a great experience and highly recommended!

Loads of fun. Great way to visit the park. Very special few hours on the water. Also I did a solo bike back to town after rather boat ride. I enjoyed both parts of the tour. Highly recommend.

Awesome time on the jet with John. Really fun and educational. If anyone is nervous about it being scary, I would recommend you do this jet boat ride! Bike trail was great too with a few hills to test our fitness. All staff were lovely.

Brilliant team making the customer experience their absolute priority. We loved all of it - the e bikes down the lake/river, the informative but also exciting jet boat (John is brilliant, funny and full of interesting stories. The boat ride was exciting and skilful and always felt safe). After a minor booking error every effort was made to ensure we had a good time and the whole experience surpassed our expectations.
