I went to this museum, but really wanted to go to the island. But after reading the reviews about how it is not guaranteed to get on the island and the seasickness endured to get there plus only 1 day of English, I thought this would be a better choice. I believe it was. Price was $18 to get into each and it amazed me how deep the mine was and how it operated - not a job I would like. It was also interesting to learn about the people and their lives and also just have a sit down. I would recommend as something to see when in Nagasaki, very simple activity and all through movies and pictures. I walked away with a sense of how it was to live there. I am sure one day there would be a 3d visual experience like you are walking through the buildings.

Worth a Visit to Prepare for the Tour to the Island

Honestly I might not make a trip to the museum if not as a package with the tour to the island and the meeting point for ticket collection. Staff was very friendly and helpful and I met one who is from Hong Kong and speaks English and Cantonese. He highly recommended me to visit the fourth floor for the "Simulated Gunkanjima landing experience using the latest VR technology" and I did enjoy seeing the inside of the old buildings that were not accessible via physical visit. There are movies showing the history of the island that helps one prepare for the island tour, thus definitely a worthwhile visit.
