Overview

Escape to Manhattan in the 1950s: a colourful, larger-than-life world of showgirls and gangsters, set against the backdrop of Sydney’s glittering harbour. This is musical theatre at its show-stopping best. The score is packed with huge hits, including ‘Luck Be a Lady’, ‘Sit Down You’re Rockin’ the Boat’, ‘Adelaide’s Lament’ and ‘I’ve Never Been in Love Before’. Expect big laughs and even bigger song and dance numbers in this energetic new staging by Opera Australia’s Artistic Director, Jo Davies. There’s nowhere better to experience a tale of romance and comedic mayhem than Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour. Fabulous! All the way around, the setting, the talent, the choreography, the vocalists! We bought tickets late and were in the back row, but worth every penny. We love theatre and have seen shows in London, New York, Chicago and Minneapolis and we were absolutely thrilled with the experience. We ate at one of the on-site cafes on the theatre grounds. We could view the Harbor Bridge, Opera House and the moon setting - magical! Well done!

We had fun. We enjoyed the show very much. The show is great. And the background with Sydney Opera House was fantastic. And the fireworks were so amazing.

Fabulous experience. This was not in the Opera House but outside across the harbour. Glad it didn't rain! Loved the set changes.

The opera was beautifully placed in the botanical gardens of Sydney all outside with the skyline of the city as the background. The opera was perfectly sung and the Sydney orchestra was top notch. So glad there was no rain ,it was perfect!
