Our bar hopping tour in Himeji was one of the highlights of time there, not only because we got to taste various local sakes, liquors, and beers, but we really enjoyed getting to know the culture through our wonderful guides, Sho and Yu.
As it turns out, Himeji is the sake capital of Japan. We were astonished by the incredible range of experience sake has to offer: sweet, tangy, herbal, hot. Other drinks were also fun, especially a local favorite, the "highball!" (sweet Japanese whiskey and soda)
We visited four bar/restaurants. Lovely "snacks" (fried fish, pickle dishes, excellent chicken) were offered with each stop. The food was fun and accessible, even to people unfamiliar with the Japanese palate.
Our guides Yu and Sho were warm and generous, full of good humor. They were always checking in and adjusting the tour to our tastes. Simply delightful!
