Itinerary

Japanese Swordsmanship "Iaido" consists of three words, I = Being, Ai = Encounter, Do = Way. Iaido’s emphasis is on precise, controlled, fluid motion, and is sometimes referred to as ‘moving Zen’. The program goes further than most Iaido classes do for beginners in that the student is allowed to practice actual cutting techniques on certain objects like bamboo or straw shaped human forms using real Iaido swords. This part of the training is called Shizan.

An unforgettable welcome into Samurai Tradition

Our group recently participated in the Iaido Samurai Experience in Tokyo, and it was truly unforgettable. From the moment we booked, it was seamless and well-organized.​ Upon arriving at the dojo, we were warmly welcomed and provided with traditional Iaido jackets, immersing us immediately into the samurai spirit. The instructor was highly skilled and passionate, with a wealth of knowledge, guiding us through the fundamentals of Iaido with clarity and enthusiasm.​ A highlight of the session was the opportunity to practice real cutting techniques using authentic Iaido swords on tatami mats. This hands-on experience was both thrilling and humbling, offering a genuine taste of samurai discipline, precision, and skill. There was also an impressive collection of real armor and swords, adding depth and authenticity to the experience. For anyone seeking a profound and engaging cultural experience in Tokyo, this Iaido session is a must. It offers not just a lesson in swordsmanship, but a meaningful connection to Japan's rich samurai heritage.​
