Overview

Castle Valley is the poster child for Western landscapes, and you’ve probably already seen it somewhere in a western, TV show, or a commercial or two. And if somehow you have, in fact, never laid eyes on Castle Valley before, you’re not going forget it once you do! This serene section of the Colorado River moseys through a big beautiful valley lined with monuments, before cutting through a towering red rock canyon that meanders back toward Moab. Along the way are some of Utah’s most impressive geologic features like Fisher Towers, Castleton Tower, the Priest and Nuns, and so on. As for the waters here along the Colorado River, it stays pretty warm from late spring to early fall. You’ll spend most of your time floating, with a few Class II rapids to cool you off along the way. Expect river games and stories, splash fights, and lots of fun interpretations from your guides on this mild trip!

Itinerary

Moab

Meet us at our Moab Office and get ready for the river! After checking in and getting fitted for a life jacket, you'll shuttle out to Castle Valley with your guides. This incredibly scenic drive takes around 45 minutes to reach the most dramatic landscapes, so sit back and enjoy! At the boat launch you'll have a quick safety orientation before pushing off onto the Colorado River for the day. In between the Class II rapids, you’ll have plenty of time to take in the sights of Fisher Towers and other monuments of this spectacular area. Your guide will share plenty of fascinating history and fun stories as you float through the scenery. This trip is mostly flat water, so we’ll stop for swims and games along the way. Lunch is usually around noon on the beach. The last half of the trip comes with more rapid sections, which you’re free to sit back and enjoy, or paddle through with your guide. At the trip's end, you'll have another scenic shuttle waiting for you back to our office.

Amazing full day rafting trip with Luis. We had a smaller private boat with just 6 passengers, loved that. Even though it was a calmer day on the river Luis still made it adventurous for us and told us so many amazing facts about the land. Lucked out seeing a bald eagle fly over us

Luis was a fantastic guide! We really enjoyed his knowledge of surrounding landscape and wild life! The bus ride to the landing spot was also pretty intense! The enjoyed the whole experience!

The views from the river were awesome. You don’t want to miss out on this experience if you stay in Moab area. Water was cool, but a great way to cool off. Lunch was provided to eat picnic style on the side of the river. The guide Dean was very easy going and great with the 100 questions we had about the canyon. The trip is definitely on the milder side for rapids, but makes up for it with the view! Would recommend full day to see the deeper side of the canyon.

We had such a great time! We did the full day rafting trip with my wife, my 2 kids, and my in-laws. Gavin was our guide at Mild to Wild and he made the experience so memorable. Gavin told us stories and jokes and has a ton of river rafting experience. He is very knowledge about MOAB and the surrounding areas. During the trip we rafted through rapids, swam in the river, stopped for lunch, saw spectacular views, and also saw a bald eagle and even dinosaur foot prints. We would go back on this excursion again and I recommend requesting Gavin as your tour guide!
