Our driver Bobby was gregarious and knowledgeable. We had plenty of time to see Mount Vernon. The house is currently undergoing renovations and maintenance but we still saw all the rooms. The view from the back porch is remarkable. We saw the old tomb, the newer tomb, but I think the lost moving was the burial ground for the enslaved people of Mount Vernon. The graves are not marked but a number of them have been outlined with string and people are leaving painted rocks to commemorate the dead. Very touching.
The gift shop is huge with very good selections of many different types of quality items. The restaurant, like the other museum restaurants we went to in DC is very average. The cheeseburger was - I’m not sure what it was. Icky. not enough gluten free options, although they offer a gf bun. I didn’t feel confident in their cross contamination protocol. They have a variety of bottled drinks, chips, desserts, etc. You won’t starve, but it’s mediocre and overpriced.
Still worth a trip to see this important historical landmark.
