The Mangrove Forest is one of the most vital and outstanding ecosystems in the world. Covering thousands of acres of protected forest, this amazing environment is home to a large number of birds, reptiles, mammals and insects. Approximately 70% of its wildlife is nocturnal, a fact that has made the Night Mangrove Tour one of our most fascinating adventures. Great guide, amazing animals, highly worth it

We were very happy with this tour, we saw so many animals and that was due to the enthusiasm of our guide Joseth, who was fantastic. We were lucky to see two yellow boa constrictors, frogs, baby crocodiles, raccoons and various birds (unfortunately no owls like in the picture!). Joseth had so much knowledge to share about the environment, fauna and flora, and he was so enthusiastic about his work and making sure everyone had a chance to see the animals. It was a beautiful night to cruise around the river. The night ended with dinner at a local restaurant. Our only recommendation is to allow the dinner as an opt in/ opt out. Otherwise we enjoyed everything!

A Different Excursion

This is different from the typical tour by it being a night tour. We learned 70% of wildlife in Costa Rica are nocturnal. We saw bats, kingfishers, red necked basilisk, a sloth, a hummingbird, raccoons, many of which were sleeping. We saw many baby crocodiles. Obviously, people have to understand that the tour’s success is based on the animals making themselves visible but Joseph, our guide, and Captain Allan did everything to make sure we missed nothing. Thank you! Great experience!
