Overview

With more than 100 years of existence, Poças lies in the hands of the 4th generation, being one of the very few Port Wine company that was born Portuguese and still belongs to the same Portuguese family. The Old Tawny Ports have built Poças’ reputation but DOC Douro wines have been proving their own quality over the last 30 years. Recently, Poças received the award of “Fortified wine producer of the year 2018” by the Portuguese magazine “Revista de Vinhos”. Additionally, welcoming about 28 000 visitors per year, our Visitor Center has been also distinguished with the Tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence. We have plenty of different reasons for inviting you to be part of a true family atmosphere, to feel the unforgettable aroma of the noblest wines and to see up close a real day-to-day cellar routine.

    The Experience will start with a guided visit to the aging cellar where the fabulous wines have been aging for more than 100 years. You will get to know what makes Port Wine so special and also learn about the place where it is made: the Douro Valley. Then you'll walk into the Tasting Room where a harmonized tasting of three different Port Wines awaits. You will find out what pairs well with Port Wine and discover Port styles that you might not have tasted before. You'll also have the possibility of tasting other wines (not included) and buying all the available references at our shop.

The trek up from the river is a little concerning as itan ordinary part of town. Once there the winery is well set up and Phillip was a very knowledgeable and entertaining guide that explained everything. Very good value and highly recommended

We thoroughly enjoyed our informative and passionate visit...came away with more knowledge and respect for port wines (and a box to be delivered home to the states)! Used the hop on hop off bus to get close enough to walk to our tour ..very helpful transport. We added the cheese and cracker plate to our sampling (very very nice)

Definitely worth the journey. Informative tour, and a very refined tasting environment (tablecloths, nice glasses etc). Its a bit of a hike uphill and round the houses from the rest of the Port tasting places, but worth it in my view. Just felt a bit more special and less like we were in just another cash making machine.
