Overview

Join your host Kanae in her open kitchen and learn to prepare a traditional, homemade Japanese meal! Kanae will welcome you into her comfortable family home located in one of the most peaceful and luxurious residential areas of Sapporo. Sip on a welcome drink as you immerse yourself into local Hokkaido culture and get to know your host as she shares stories about herself, her family and living in Hokkaido. You can expect your hands-on cooking lesson to last about 1-1.5 hours before you enjoy the meal you helped prepare together. Your authentic Japanese meal might include dishes such as teriyaki-chiken, kinpira-gobo (sweet and salty cooked burdock), agedashi-tofu (deep fried and seasoned tofu) and miso soup. Meet your host in front of a convenience store called LAWSON close to the Maruyama-koen station on the Tozai subway line take Exit #4, go upstairs and meet your host at the store on your left. She will pick you up from here in her car and will drop you off at the same location after your experience.

Please note that Kanae's car can fit up to 5 people including the driver (max 4 guests), so if you are a group of 5 or more you will need to use a taxi and have it follow Kanae's car to her home, after meeting her at the station.

We made tasty Udon and Tempura

We had a most lovely time with Kanae, she is a great chef and a great host. She taught us how to make udon from scratch and how to make tasty crunchy tempura. We then sat down and at it all!

We had a great time with Kanae. She picked us up right on time and it was a short drive to her house. My wife is vegetarian. We let Kanae know a head of time and she tailored the menu for us. It was delicious! We would definitely do it again on our next trip!

Kanae is such a sweet and wonderful host and great cook. She’s nice to talk to as well. I’m so glad to have signed up for this class. It feels more like meeting up with an old friend. Thankful for this session which wraps up the end of my trip nicely. ❤️

Jessie at Super eight in Redmond Oregon 3629 SW 21st Place was Super Duper! Cheery and quick and helpful. She deserves a raise! She's worth it and More! Just delightful help! I wanted to hug her she was sooo nice! Gave us "the skinny" got us a ride from the airport and treated us like royalty.She won my loyalty to Super 8 Wyndham in Redmond Oregon! Just got here what a great start to our journey to have such a lovely nice person helping us! She got us all set up and spent time explaining things even though her shift was almost over! Kudos to her Super 8 is blessed to have her! (And we are not related although I'd LIKE to claim her)

My son and I had a wonderful time with Maeda-san! She picked us up at the train station and drove us to her home to learn how to make home-style hokkaido corn butter Ramen. She is a lovely person and we enjoyed the whole experience of spending time with her and learning to cook. Highly recommend!
