Overview

One of the most popular cable car is right in Kathmandu, whisking you quickly up and down the side of Chandragiri Hill for the most impressive view of the snow-capped the Himalayas anywhere. Opened in 2016, this exciting experience takes you on a 10-minutes journey to the top where you can see a panoramic view of the Mighty Himalayas. Spend some time on top; enjoy lunch at an excellent restaurant with the world’s finest view before your return trip down to the bottom part by cable car.

It was an interesting tour with Shanti, who taught me a lot about Nepal, its culture, and customs. I highly recommend the tour to everyone; our driver also maneuvered us well and safely through the hectic traffic.

Ananta Aryal was an excellent guide. He was very friendly and answered all our questions. Not only was he was very knowledgeable about our specific tour (Chandragiri Cable Car), but he also provided good information for other things we might want to do while in Kathmandu.

Wonderful Shanti the female guide in Nepal

I had the most wonderful guide in Shanti, from the moment I was collected from hotel she explained about culture and history of Nepal, pointing out interesting facts as we drove to the cable car. On arrival we visited the temple and she explained about the gods, the different colours of the prayer flags, the mountain range around the viewing point. As we went up to the Everest viewing point we could not see the range due to the clouds but Shanti pulled out a photograph she had taken on an earlier trip and we could match that to the mountain range. I would recommend anyone travelling to Nepal visit the cable car and ask for Shanti to be your guide.

Ananta is an amazing tour guide. Taking the cable car to the mountain near Kathmandu was one of the highlights of my trip. The views were stunning—lush valleys, terraced hillsides, and the distant outline of the Himalayas. But what made the experience truly memorable was the cultural and historical storytelling along the way. As we ascended, I was captivated by the guide’s narration of Nepal’s deep-rooted history, its ancient kingdoms, and the spiritual significance of the mountain. I especially enjoyed learning about local myths and legends—stories passed down through generations that gave the landscape a magical, almost sacred feel. The blend of natural beauty and cultural richness made the ride feel much more than a simple trip up a mountain—it was a journey through Nepal’s soul. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Kathmandu who wants a mix of scenic views and cultural depth.
