Prior to the trip, there was some confusion around logistics. We’d booked the trip based on the fact that it was recommended when I searched for things to do in Marmaris. Only after I’d booked (and paid) did I come to understand that we needed to get to Dalyan (about 1 1/4 hour drive) in order to take the trip. Luckily, the tour operator was able to secure a private driver for us for a reasonable price. The driver was right on time and in a nice, safe van. My girls liked the fancy LED lights.
We arrived on time and found our captain. He met us in the lovely park right by the dock, in clear view of the remarkable cliff carvings. The three of us hopped aboard a boat that was easily big enough for 20. It felt very fancy.
We took off down the river and the captain offered coffee or tea. After a lovely ride of about 45 minutes, we reached the beach. The captain explained we could swim in fresh water right off the boat (no one did) or head to the easily visible beach to swim in the Med. We chose that option. It was early and not at all crowded. The beach is perfectly maintained and has super affordable chair rental. There’s also a great little snack restaurant where we were able to get freshly made Turkish pancakes with sugar. After about an hour, we went back to the boat.
Just as we were leaving, the captain spotted sea turtles swimming right by the boat. They were huge.
Our next stop was the “magic lake” where fresh and sea water meet and both are heated by natural sulphur springs. We swam in the lake for a long time because it was about the coolest swim any of us had ever had.
After the lake, we went back to town. The captain was very, very clear that he’d be happy to take us to the mud baths even though we’d reached out time limit. He was as nice as could be, but we were strapped for time because our cruise ship was leaving Marmaris early in the evening.
While I wish it had been clearer that the drive was as long as it was, I’m very glad for my mistake. It was a wonderful day, made more so by the great, accommodating tour company and the kind and talented captain.
