I booked this tour for myself, my husband and two kids (ages 6 & 9). I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it was everything we hoped it would be and more! The driver and guide picked us up at 7:15 AM from our hotel in a private van. Our guide, Allan, explained many things along the drive. It’s a long drive – about two hours – but it goes quickly when you were looking out the window and learning about Costa Rican wildlife, etc. Allan was very knowledgeable and clearly had a true passion for the local environment and wildlife. Our first stop was the wildlife conservation center. We went on a lovely short walk/hike and saw so many animals! We saw frogs, snakes, sloths, and even a toucan! The highlight was seeing a baby sloth climb its first tree right next to us. After that, we headed to the waterfall hike, which was beautiful, but a bit overcrowded. Of the three activities, I could’ve skipped the waterfall hike, but it was still fun and the waterfall is gorgeous. There are just tons of tourists. It did make me very grateful to be on a private trip, versus a large bus tour. Lastly, I was the tubing, which was more thrilling than I expected, and a lot of fun! My daughter was a little bit nervous at first, but even she started to enjoy it after realizing we weren’t going to tip over in the mini rapids. The water was a bit chilly in January, but manageable. I’d wear a rashguard or swim top to stay warm, if you have one. This is the rainforest and it did rain, but very gentle and warm. I would definitely recommend this to her. It’s a long day – about 12 hours in total – but was truly a highlight of our week in Costa Rica.
