We stayed 3 nights at Little Chembaka and did 4 cruises with Sanu, namely 1 sunset cruise and 3 sunrise cruises. We didn’t realise this before we came, but this place has two relatively small but comfortable boats, whereas most of the boats out on the lake are the big house boats you associate with the backwaters here. I am soooo glad we took the smaller boats as it meant we could go down the smaller, more intimate canals that the other boats could not. So not only did we have a better view of the close-up nature and village life as we floated by, but there were also NO other boats. So the sunrise cruise, the water would be wonderfully still, the reflections amazing, just the sound of birds, and the golden sun rising up over the horizon as we slowly headed east on one of the small canals. I’d highly recommend using this company and Sanu who’s a nice guy too.

Sanu and his tours has made my stay at "little chembaka' unique and memorable. His boat float allowing to navigate thru narrow canals at surise and big lake at sun set is a great asset. The story of how they became who they are today and local cafés along the costs was really nice to experience ! Great team great family!

We were 3 girlfriends traveling together and had the most amazing experience with Canoe Kerela. From the moment we reached out to enquire, the team were first class. They made the whole process so easy, from picking us up from Forte Kochi 1.5 hrs away, through to taking us to our final destination 3.5hrs away. The 4:30am start was absolutely worth it, from the chi on arrival (because of our super early start), to the stunning traditional wooden boat perfectly setup for just us three. The serenity watching the sunrise, the bird life, the morning rituals and village life, the flowers and scenery …….. it was a feast for the senses. Chai tea on the banks of the river with the local farmers and a traditional Kerela breakfast cooked by Jess on site in their gorgeous Wander Werks Kitchen, a curated space that again is a treat to experience. Such yummy yummy food. If we had longer to stay we definitely would have done their cooking class and stayed in their Little Chembaka private villa. What ever experience you choose through the Canoe Kerela team - you will not be disappointed. If I could have given a 15 out of 10 rating I would have. It’s a must do experience.

The sunrise canoe journey will forever be synonymous with tranquility for me. I can’t even express how lovely this was. Honestly, we started feeling a bit grumpy about the wake up time - it was worth every minute of sleep spared. After a relaxing journey, we arrived back at the start to a remarkable breakfast. Probably the best breakfast we’ve had in India.
