Includes short native bush walk informing about native plants, including the silver fern. Talk about the pioneers whom founded the top of the south Island , historic relics still remain for viewing in this hidden secluded valley. Explore the famous filming locations used in the second “Hobbit” movie “The Desolation of Smaug” listen to the native bird song, as you drift through crystal waters, New Zealand paradise, Definetly the most beautiful river you ever paddled.

Itinerary

Your trip starts in Havelock which is 50 minutes from Nelson, 25 minutes from Blenheim, where you will register and get fitted for your adventure ahead. After a short drive, reach the crystal-clear waters of the Pelorus, and begin your descent down one of New Zealand's most beautiful rivers, which was used in the filming of the movie The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Once you reach the filming location, take a short walk to where it all happened, and learn what went on during nine days in December, 2011 while filming. Also learn about the history of the milling of the forest and mining of gold in the surrounding areas before heading back to Havelock.

This company could not have been more fair to us. We had no idea that it was a public holiday and were unable to get a taxi for this activity. Even though cancelled on the day, they offered a full refund. What a great company to deal with.

We had a great time kayaking! Jade was a wonderful guide. There is a shower and hair dryer available if you decide to swim. I would definitely recommend!

Jade and Junior (her 6 year old) was amazing. She took care of every detail, shared the history of the Havelock logging and gold rush days with us, pointing out interesting facts and features along the way. She was well versed in the shooting of the Hobbit movie and showed us the locations where they shot scenes and the interesting stories of the obstacles they encountered while filming. Absolutely a beautiful experience in nature. Expect to get your feet wet and some splashing. If there’s no wind she will have bug spray. We had a perfect breeze so bug free!! Thanks Jade n Junior!!!!
