The driver was on time to pick us up at our hotel, as was our guide Maahi. The car was clean and comfortable and Maahi provided us with an overview of the day. We began at the famous Taj Mahal, taking the golf carts to the royal gate. Maahi was thoughtful and informed us about the cost of the photographers and ensured we were not taken advantage of as tourists. We then began the walk to the Taj Mahal. I really appreciated having my picture taken at numerous places around the grounds — Maahi had great local knowledge of what would look best. Maahi then provided us with a history of the Taj before we entered. Be sure to bring good walking shoes as you climb the wooden stairs to the Taj Mahal— you will wear blue booties to protect the marble floors. We had 30 minutes inside the Taj which was ample time. Lunch was delicious, we had both Western and Indian options and Maahi was helpful in selecting dishes within our dietary restrictions. We then enjoyed visiting the marble artisans which Agra is famous for. We were able to learn about the process and then see the showroom, and appreciated the help to negotiate a lower price. We were brought to an artisan that offers international FedEx and DHL shipping which was a huge help! We then went to the baby Taj, which is much quieter and calmer than the Taj Mahal. Once again, Maahi provided us with the history and took beautiful photos. We appreciated the option of seeing leather artisans as well and how accommodating the tour was given the heat. Having an individualized tour is absolutely the best way to see the Taj, and I highly recommend Aman Tours.
