Magnificent Nature Cruise in Akaroa Harbour

It was a brillant, sunny morning. We saw more than 20 dolphins, swimming around in the harbour and a little, white, flippered penguin swimming and diving into the water. We saw mother seals and their pups. They were lying on the rocks in the sun. The captain of the boat provided a very informative commentary of local history and nature. The sea was so calm we went out to sea where we saw huge caves, tall cliffs and the impressive hole in the rock.

You will never see the Hector dolphins anywhere else in the world. We saw plenty on a wonderful day from a top class vessel, The Black Cat.

Beautiful day for a nature cruise!

We enjoyed our nature cruise and got to see many of the hectares dolphins and fur seals. Our guide was very informative, staff friendly and helpful. The only complaint that I have is that they are still advertising penguin sightings in their online information, but apparently they have not been around for at least : tears. I was disappointed that we were not going to see them. Please update your information to not include them.

Hector’s Dolphins Delight

Fabulous. Hector’s dolphins were awesome. Within five minutes of leaving we had encountered the first pod. Karl was extremely knowledgeable and made the trip worthwhile. We were super lucky as we also saw a blue penguin and sea lions. Trifecta. Teenage daughters loved it.

Great trip. Would definitely recommend. Fantastic guide/skipper.

This was a great trip and well worth the time and money. Akaroa is beautiful but it is amazing to go out on the water. We saw loads of dolphins (at least 20-30) as well as so many seals. The skipper/guide (Karl) of the boat was informative and gave us a huge about of interesting information about the geology, history and nature of the area. It was a highlight of our stay on the beautiful Banks Peninsula. The team were all friendly and helpful. Thanks to you all.
