Overview

Travel along the Danube from Belgrade to Iron Gates to see the most famous sights of the area. With live, professional guiding, and on an air-conditioned vehicle, you will visit the famous Golubac Fortress, Lepenski Vir museum with the oldest Mesolithic sculptures in all of Europe, and you will see the stunning beauty of the longest composite valley in Europe. You will have the chance to feel the unique atmosphere of Eastern Serbia, and to taste the traditional products of the area.

  • The restaurant doesn't accept credit cards, so payment is possible only with cash.
  • On a shared tour, you can only buy entrance tickets for "Zone 1" (the green zone) of Golubac Fortress. The other zones are available only on a private tour, moderate to extremely challenging, and require visitors to be in excellent physical condition. Also, appropriate clothing and footwear are mandatory (tracksuit, trousers, capris, trainers, hiking shoes).
  • We kindly ask you to bring passports (just in case) because the fortress is very close to the Romanian border, and the border police in that area sometimes ask tourists for documents.
  • The minimum number for a shared tour to operate is three guests.
  • At least 16 hours before the trip, we will inform you in case there are not enough guests on tour, and we will offer a choice between: 1) canceling the tour with no fees applied; 2) changing the tour date; 3) moving to another available tour.

Loved the trip on the Danube and the guide was great, knowledgeable and friendly. The lunch spot was a highlight with spectacular views over the river and a lovely traditional meal.

We very much enjoyed this tour, our driver and guide, Marko, did a great job giving some of the history of the areas we drove through on the way. The van was comfortable even with 6 guests and a driver. Golubac Fortress is quite amazing and being able to look over into Romania and understand all that has gone on over centuries here was fascinating. The Fortress is well presented and even in only the "green zone" it was worth the visit, great for photo ops. The lunch stop was also interesting inside an artists property with all his art work in the fields and the restaurant. The food is all local and plenty to eat. The cheeses were excellent and first time to eat deep fried nettles, so some thing new. Last stop was the Lepenski vir archaeological dig. A lovely walk through a wooded path from the car park with botanical identification of many trees and then into the museum itself with the original settlement from 7000 years ago replicated inside. Very much worth the visit. There is a lot of driving on this tour but the journey passes quickly with the informative insights from our guide.

Great views and great food

It is pretty much a full day experience, quite far away from Belgrade so prepare to spend some time in a comfy van. Despite the lengthy drive, time flew by fast thanks to the great stories and interesting facts shared by our awesome guide. The fortress and surrounding area is a sight to see and if you are interested in history your mind will be blown. The river cruise is also beautiful and very interesting, showing a different way to appreciate the Danube. I'd highly recommend taking the optional lunch as well, food is something to talk about for days afterwards.
