Honestly, with there being so many companies providing this type of service, and most of them getting good reviews, I just rolled the dice and went with this one.
It turned out to be a great choice. First, I have to say thanks for being allowed to move my scheduled date and time from Thursday 8pm to a day earlier with the same time. Due to an impending two days strike at an airport I had a connecting flt with, my flt out of Athens was cancelled. Only flt I could get where I could arrive in Amsterdam not days after I was to be there were ones that got me there a day earlier.
The weather was not great, but it was winter. So rain and wind is par for the course. The boat was covered and well heated. Due to it being low tourists season, there were about 12 people on this trip.
Light cheese snacks provided as part of the trip. Drinks for those who selected that paid option when booking the trip. Otherwise, you could buy them during the cruise.
The captain was very enthusiastic and entertaining. I’m guessing many of the humorous moments he intertwined with his factual knowledge of the canals and city he has said hundreds of times, but they came across still as fresh and new.
It was nice for those interested in standing on the bridge a few moments with him while he was piloting the ship was nice.
There was a coworker on board with him who shared the duties of explaining certain nighttime scenes to us, in addition to doing double duty at the bar which was more like a refrigerator that had a limited selection.
I wanted to see the city and do a canal ride while visiting Amsterdam, and this more than met my needs. In fact, a few days later when taking a walking of the city I was able to recall things the captain and coworker said about the hooks on houses, why some are leaning, how the Waldorf area became the most wealthy part of town, along with other facts.
I would say that is a strong testament to them for them not just dialing it in, but actually going the extra mile to maybe help us retain some of what was said for the long term.
