From Ponta Delgada city center by auto, head East along the coast and follow directions to Vila Franca do Campo. Once in Vila Franca do Campo, descend towards sea level and the Marina where our Base and Yellow Boats are stationed, and Free Parking can be found.

Itinerary

The journey starts with a short briefing introducing local species, rules and responsible practice on tour, onboard safety, and equipment use. Follow your Guide and Skipper to your designated boat, and go out to sea. Lookouts high inland help locate our friends, and provide directions via VHF Radio to where the boat travels, initially at high speed. While approaching our friends very carefully, your Guide will evaluate if all favorable conditions are met to allow the activity’s proceedings. Always be ready and prepared to go into the water - 2 swimmers alternate in the water at safe distance during limited periods of time, and you do not want to miss out on each opportunity in which Dolphins can choose to come closer driven by their friendliness and curiosity. Exclusively between late Autumn and Early Spring with water temperatures averaging between 16ºc and 22ºc, and depending on specific species’ birthing season and behavior, it is possible to swim with any of 4 different species of Dolphins - Common Dolphins, Bottlenose Dolphins, Striped Dolphins and Risso’s Dolphins. On a second part of the tour, snorkel, to discover the marine fauna & flora in the island’s sea bed.

Great experience. The team is clearly respectful of the animals and we’re clear about how the animal's welfare came first. The staff on the boat were experienced and did a great job guiding the people who weren’t confident in the water. They were also very patient with all the questions that came up. Didn’t hurt that we had fortunate timing seeing the dolphins in full flying mode which is really great to witness. It was our best experience of the entire trip and the team were a big part of it

Wonderful experience, that was perfectly guided! The interaction with the animals was very respectful and we were additionally provided with a lot of information about the animals and research projects, in which Terra Azul is involved. Being in the water with dolphins is simply a unique experience. A big thank you to the Terra Azul Team!

We had a wonderful dolphin experience with Ricardo and Daniel! They made us feel very comfortable and made sure we were all having fun. It is a beautiful way to see the island from the water and to experience the dolphins up close. Seeing the dolphins underwater is a very relaxing and tranquil experience. All of the staff at Terra Azul are kind and friendly, and they were quick to respond to my questions. I highly recommend booking with them!

Knowledgeable and friendly staff - they really know their stuff, I felt really safe of the boats, the staff took good care of us and explained everything they saw. We even got to see a mother and baby sperm whale, which will stay with me as a precious memory forever.
