Tha Phae Gate

On the way towards the old city’s eastern gate we'll bike through many of the city’s quaint lanes. Tha Phae gate was once the entrance through which traders brought their wares into the city. At this beautifully restored gate learn about Chiang Mai's history as a trading hub.

Somphet Market

From Tha Phae Gate bike to a nearby Somphet Market. Wander through the market learning a bit about Chiang Mai food and taste a few fruits and sweets while you are at it.

Wat Chiang Man

The next stop on the bike tour is Wat Chiang Man, Chiang Mai’s oldest temple, built in the auspicious Northeast corner of the old city.  This is where the ancient Marble and Crystal Buddha images are enshrined.

Wat Chedi Luang Varavihara

Next on the bike tour is Chiang Mai’s grandest monument. Wat Chedi Luang was built to house the ashes of a king and was once the home of the Emerald Buddha (now resident at Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok). It is now the home of the City Pillar and 3 auspicious dipterocarp trees which provide protection to the city.

Amazing trip! Biked through the back alleys and areas of Chiang Mai only a local would know. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and safely brought us through the city. Lots of delicious snacks throughout too!

Excellent bike tour of old city!

Great bike tour, we did the half day and it went from 9a-2p since none of us on the tour had plans immediately after. Our Guide (Thew) spoke excellent English and shared both personal stories and local history. He also took great pics for us! We biked about 10 miles, almost entirely flat / non strenuous, and I was amazed at how well local cars / tuk tuks / motorcycles yielded to our group of bikes. The company provides waters, helmets, bikes, and our group got smoothies in the middle of the tour. Really great way to see the old city!!

My guide was wonderful. He was amiable, knowledgeable and fun. I was lucky enough to be on the booking alone. So I essentially got a private tour of old town, seeing temples which aren't usually visited and getting personal insight into the history of the city. I learnt much more than I expected, tried new foods in the market enjoyed cycling in the sun and learnt more about Buddhism. It was one of my favorite experiences in Chiang Mai. A solid recommendation from me.
