Your tour starts in New Zealand’s largest city. As we drive out of the city your guide will not only set the scene for your adventure today but also point out and guide you past some of the city’s top highlights.

Exiting Auckland we travel south through the stunning Waikato countryside, the most extensive farming area in the world, encountering beautiful scenery, mighty rivers, great photo opportunities, impressive mountains and several farm animals along the way.
Coromandel Peninsula

As we enter the Coromandel Peninsula we will begin to discover it’s untouched beauty. Famous as a favourite holiday spot for locals this area is rich with stunning white sand beaches, extensive native forests and unbeatable views of the Pacific Ocean coastline. We will stop many times for short walks to viewpoints and great spots for photos during our journey through this breath-taking area, on the way to our first feature destination.

Hot Water Beach

Our next stop is the renowned Hot Water Beach. Here you can dig a hole in the sand to create your own naturally-heated geothermal water bath. *Tip: Dig your hole at the edge of the beach to allow ocean waves to gently roll in and cool you off occasionally. What could be better than a natural geothermal spa on the beach! The order of activities between Cathedral Cove and Hot Water Beach may vary depending on tide times to ensure the best experience at each location.

Cathedral Cove Walk

Visit Cathedral Cove, one of New Zealand’s most iconic natural landmarks. The walk to Cathedral Cove takes between 30 - 45 minutes, but the reward is well worth it—stunning coastal views and the opportunity to explore this breathtaking beach. Alternatively, opt for a boat tour (additional cost) to experience Cathedral Cove and other hidden gems from the water, providing incredible views and a more relaxed journey. Access to Cathedral Cove is weather-dependent. For safety reasons, the track may be unsuitable after or during heavy rain. In such cases, alternative arrangements will be made to ensure you still have an incredible experience.

A delightful one-day tour

Cheeky Kiwi has been a delight to travel with from start to finish. They were very communicative (such as to confirm and re-confirm trip details and start and end times), and Brendan - our guide for this one-day tour - was friendly, funny, helpful, and laid back, which hasn’t been the case for all guides I’ve had. I have another two-day tour with them coming up, and am looking forward to it!

A Great Tour

What a great day trip. Matt was a wealth of knowledge about New Zealand, and skillfully guided us to three amazing destinations. We particularly enjoyed Hot Water Beach. Not only did Matt provide the shovels, but helped did the hole that eventually turned into a natural hot tub. Cathedral Cove was also amazing. We recommend taking the water taxi back to Hahei to grab some lunch.

In my opinion, this is a must visit if you have time to do it. Seeing Catheral Cove was absolutely breathtaking. The tour led by Matt was unbelievable and he gave great advice, history and information all day. Couldn't recommend Cheeky Kiwi and Matt more. Now I know why all the people I talked to in Auckland and New Zealand said if you have time go to Catheral Cove.

Great tour guide and driver Jeoff, was knowledgeable and informative about areas we traveled in. He gave enough time at each stop to enjoy experience. Excellent Day Trip from Auckland

A fantastic way to see the Coromandel Peninsula from Auckland! They picked us up right from the hotel and we set off to Cathedral Cove. Hot Water Beach tide conditions were unfavorable for visiting, so we stopped at a few other cool places that I would not have found on my own. We did make adequate breakfast and lunch breaks. The whole thing took 12-13 hours. Worth it!
