Scenic train ride

At times there are beautiful views of the ocean as you travel along the coast. The seats are comfortable. The snack carts offer a wide variety of things to eat. It’s also easy to view the sights from your seat. It has an observation car but it was too crowded to enjoy the sites when we were by the ocean.

Best way to travel south

We were originally thinking of driving from Picton to our next destination in the South Island. When we found this train ride, it was a no-brainer most convenient and scenic way to travel south. Highly recommend if you’re traveling south.

A fantastic way to travel from Picton to Christchurch

A very well organized activity. The station ticket seller gave all the solo travelers single seats which were really appreciated. The route (100Km of coastline) and rural landscapes were photographic perfection! The train staff were very professional and kind.

Easy way to go

Enjoyable ride - the seats were comfortable and the food from the cafe was good. You are along the coast about 1/2 the time and the views are great.

Comfortable. Great views. Polite and friendly staff and service. The train was about. Three quarters full so not crowded.
