Since the five of us ranged quite a bit in age -- 32-72 - and we wanted to focus on seeing new birds on our first Colombia trip, we were reluctant to simply join an already scheduled tour. So we worked with Jorge -- who was absolutely first rate in communicating with us and answering our questions quickly and fully -- to arrange a private tour. Our guide, Santiago, was terrific: patient, knowledgeable, and as enthusiastic about looking for birds -- from indigenous warblers and woodpeckers to trogons and toucans as we were. This turned out to be a challenging hike - over 10 miles, up to nearly 3,000 meters (9.000 feet) - with more ups and downs than we realized. Still, we felt very well guided and looked after, and during the day spotted 50 different species of birds while taking in some remarkable scenery. (Especially appreciated, after getting rained on during the last 45 minutes, was having a small van waiting to transport us back to Salento, rather than the open-aired Willy's jeep we'd taken to the trailhead when the weather was sunny). All in all, it was a first-rate experience, and I have no hesitation recommending Pajareros Birding Tours to others for their professionalism, flexibility, and knowledge.

Pajareros were super communicative and accommodating from the moment I inquired about the tour to the second I returned to Salento. The tour started with breakfast in the town and then we went to the Cocora Valley to begin our hike and birding experience. The views of the palms and mountains were spectacular. We saw 45 species of birds along the way (even a toucan!). My guide was super, personable, knowledgeable, and passionate about birds and nature. I would definitely book a birding tour through this company again!

Juan is an excellent guide with good English and fantastic knowledge of local bird species by sight and by sound. He knows where to search and keeps detailed lists in eBird. Great views as well, until fog closes in. This route has a long steady ascent of 600m elevation gain. Bring a hiking pole.

Amazing day hiking through the Cocora Valley! I could not have dreamed of a better day hiking and birding amidst such beauty and in the company of a great guide. Santiago, you are a gem. We saw more than 50 (!!) different birds thanks to Santi. If you enjoy chasing birds, beauty, and spoiling your senses…you should probably book this tour right about now lol. If you’re passing through Salento, reach out to Jorge and book a birding tour - just be forewarned that you might never want to leave…..

We took a sinilar trip to the Cocorra valley trip. The day was beautifully organised, with frequent stops in an open top jeep, walking breaks and a lovely lunch. Jorge was very knowledgeable and spotted so many birds we would have missed. Best of all was his enthusiasm and love of the area and wildlife. Do this trip, you will love it!
