Overview

East Berlin is a true melting pot and we have created an itinerary that explores the foods, events, and people who have helped shape the artistic neighborhood of Friedrichshain. From the traditional Döner Kebabs that have been a Berlin mainstay since the end of World War 2 to the introduction of new Middle Eastern dishes from the 2015 refugees, we discover 6 food stops that represent the rich tapestry of Berlin cuisine which sets it apart as an international gastronomic hub. Try the delicious Vietnamese TyTy Tacos - an exciting blend of Vietnamese flavours and German ingredients and 3 different Beers. Part food tour, part historical and cultural experience, you'll discover the true face of Berlin.

Meeting points

The easiest way to arrive is via Ostkreuz Station. Exit Ostkreuz Station by going down the set of stairs on the left just in front of the McDonald's. You leave the platform using the first right turn and continue walking straight along Neue Bahnhofstrasse until you reach the meeting point, Haroun.

    From November 14 to December 22, in addition to our regular route, we’ll take you to the city’s only Medieval Christmas market! The Friedrichshain Christmas Market is a traditional event with acrobatic entertainers, handcrafted arts, and wooden fairground rides. As we explore, we’ll learn about German Christmas markets’ fascinating, controversial past and colourful present, all while indulging in a delicious glass of seasonal Gluhwein (mulled wine).

The best way to learn some East Berlin history

The East Berlin food and history tour was an absolute treat! Our guide, Clara, was fantastic — knowledgeable, engaging, and full of interesting stories that brought the city's colourful multicultural past to life. Her passion for Berlin was infectious. Fantastic afternoon with our excellent guide, Jed. The whole experience was fun but also thought-provoking. Jed was really kind, warm and had extensive knowledge of the theme of the tour, and many other subjects as well. Really enjoyed listening to him. We went to places and restaurants which we otherwise wouldn't have gone to, and that was one of the best parts of the tour. The food was delicious (except for the currywurst!) and vegetarian / vegan options were available. Highly recommend this tour as part of your visit to Berlin!
