The shoyu tour was an extremely interactive and informative. The 6th gen owner was very knowledgeable and shared the interesting process of making shoyu. Tour behind the scene was an eye opening - traditional way of processing shoyu. After this, we pressed and made our own bottle of shoyu, followed by shoyu tasting. Teresa did an excellent interpreting job for us as we didn’t understand the Japanese owner. Owner and wife were very hospitable despite the language barrier. It was one of the most interesting tour in Hamamatsu! A must go tour for city folks like us! Pretty bottles of excellent quality shoyu to buy as souvenirs too.

This is, hands down, one of the best tours I've ever taken. I felt like I was walking into a home, not just some business. I was shown around the factory and learned about the process before making some shoyu myself; I personally knew only basic Japanese, so opted for a facilitator, and even if I had known more of the language it was so worth it! In general I cannot thank the host and facilitator enough for giving me a step inside a truly authentic Japanese experience; I felt so, so welcomed and learned so much, plus got some extremely tasty soy sauce in the process. I even got to go over to the tea store that provided the tea for our shoyu tasting (right down the street) to pick up some of their tea as well! Such an amazing experience- highly recommended.
