We had a wonderful experience in Morocco with Ali as our guide and Mohammed as our driver. We were coming in on a cruise ship and were a bit apprehensive, not knowing what to expect. Please note, the cruise ships come into a port with all the cargo ships, so you must go through a customs building for exiting and entering. Ali is not able to pick you up right at the port. There is a shuttle that takes cruise passengers to a park downtown. We met up with Ali in front of the Hyatt Regency, which is across the street from United Nations Square.
Unfortunately, it was a cold rainy day when we were there, but we made the most of it. We really enjoyed taking a tour of the inside of the mosque. The tickets were not included in our tour but it was certainly worth the time and expense. It is stunning.
We went to a delicious little cookie shop in the market are of Casablanca and stopped for some very yummy Moroccan tea, before proceeding to Rabat. It took as at least an hour by car to get there, but is a must.
I was very surprised by how spacious the area was and the roads are better than we find in the United States. Everything was quite pristine all through Rabat. We didn’t have as much time as I would have liked but we saw some great spots and even got to see the King leaving the new performing arts building, as it was the day of the grand opening.
Ali took us to an amazing restaurant in Rabat for lunch. The service and the food was outstanding. I don’t recall the name but will share a photo. My favorite dish was made with chicken and crepes.
After touring Rabat we headed back to the ship. There was quite a lot of traffic, so I was glad we planned to get back awhile before our all aboard time.
We felt safe and looked after the whole time. Ali was able to share a lot of great information with us. He was happy to answer any questions we had.
