Three of us took this perfect way to spend our first day in Alaska prior to our week-long Kenai fishing trip. We chose this 4 hour nature & glacier viewing trip and drove down to Whittier from Anchorage. On our drive, we enjoyed seeing Beluga Whales feeding in the famed Turnagin Arm, lots of gorgeous close-by mountains, a walk-to stream holding spawning Sockeye and Chum Salmon, and an exciting drive through the long tunnel to Whittier and the boat.
I booked the trip early with assigned comfortable tables and seats that including a tasty served Salmon Chowder for lunch. At the Phillips Office, we found that we were on a new, larger boat named the Bravest (as this boat originally came from New York City and was instrumental in moving people from near the 9-11 Crisis Area over to New Jersey.
The trip was first class with many Glacier views and several stops up close with Calving Views. Additionally, the boat slowed/stopped to view lots of wildlife, especially nesting Kittyhawks, large Sea Lions and everyone's favorite, feeding Sea Otters. Maybe the best came when we got to watch a Mother Otter feeding her new Baby.
The 4-hour cruise was perfect for us and provided lots of chatter on our return to Anchorage.
