Overview

Osaka Bay Area Tour,Undiscovered by Tourists. The well-developed public transportation system of Osaka makes it easy and convenient to get around, but the most convenient way to get around is by bicycle. Especially in this bay area, public transportation is not well developed, so ordinary tourists rarely enter the area. The entire tour is about 30 kilometers, cycling from reclaimed land to reclaimed land, on high bridges and ferries over canals, passing through factories, warehouses and residential areas, allowing you to enjoy the Osaka you have never seen before. From each bridge, you can enjoy the entire city of Osaka from different angles. Not a tourist destination, but a new tourist destination. Everything is easy with the YAMAHA E-Assist bike. A brief history of Osaka using old maps Your guide is a professional photographer and can even take pictures of you with your cell phone.

Itinerary

  • Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine

It is one of the oldest shrines in Japan with a history of nearly 2,000 years. It enshrines the three gods of the sea and the building is designated as a Japanese national treasure. It is also one of the birthplaces of Osaka Bay. The history of Osaka will be explained using an old map while walking around the shrine grounds.

    30 minutes

  • Shinkizugawa Bridge

From the bridge, the view toward Tennoji and the Ikoma Mountains in the background is excellent. Enjoy the descent of the three-stage loop bridge. It is also a great place to take pictures. With a central span of 305 m and a length of 2.4 km, the bridge was the longest arch bridge in Japan at the time of its completion and the 14th largest in the world.

    20 minutes

  • Nakayama Steel (Pass By)

We pass through the factory district used in Ridley Scott's film Black Rain, which is filmed in Osaka and New York City.

  • Funamachi Ferry Facilities

A ferry operated by Osaka City and used only by locals. It is a very short boat trip, about one minute, for bicycles and pedestrians only.

    10 minutes

  • IKEA Tsuruhama

Take a break and have lunch at Sweden food market of IKEA. There is nice view spot of Osaka bay next to building.

    40 minutes

  • Namihaya Bridge

The bridge is located almost in the middle of the bay area and offers a 360-degree view of the entire Osaka city area. A bridge that allows ships to pass through a channel with a height of 47m above the water surface and a width of 100m at the mouth of the Shirinashi River. Both ends of the bridge have a steep slope of 6.9%, and it is also known for the beautiful night view of Osaka city from the top of the bridge.

    20 minutes

  • Mt. Tempozan

Passing the aquarium(Kaiyukan), Ferris wheel and Tadao Ando architecture, we will take a break at Tempozan. It is famous for cherry blossoms in the spring time. The highway over the Aji River is also magnificent. USJ is on the other side of the river. Tenpouzan was created by dredging the Aji River from 1831 for the purpose of preventing flooding and making it easier for large ships to enter the city.

    15 minutes

  • J.C.T.C. (Pass By)

Three expressways intersect and subway tracks intersect. It is a very photogenic place and the intricate pier architecture is amazing

  • Yahataya Syoutengai (Pass By)

Old style Japanese arcade shopping center.

  • 甚兵衛渡船場(大正区泉尾側)

A ferry operated by Osaka City and used only by locals. It is a very short boat trip, about one minute, for bicycles and pedestrians only.

Bicycle road is very steep.you can take ferry to across the river instead.

    15 minutes

  • Sembonmatsu Bridge

Cross the Kizu River, which connects to Dotonbori. It is the most unique bridge in Osaka. It is nicknamed "Megane-bashi" (glasses bridge) by the locals because its shape resembles a pair of glasses.Photo spot. The loop bridge with three levels for both entrances and exits makes you feel like you are on a roller coaster. The view of Osaka beyond the canal is spectacular.

Loved this ride!!!

Published on Apr, 2025

This was by far my favorite activity. It is a 26 kilometer bike ride thru the real Osaka… The suburbs, manufacturing, stop at shrine, aquarium and so many spots you would not see otherwise. The guide is amazing… he is truly sharing his home and culture with his riders. Please note this is a good workout .. the bike is hybrid and does require pedaling. There are a few challenges to go over bridges. I enjoyed the challenge. You will have the best views!!! Ride ferries with the locals. Absolutely loved this and didn’t want it to end.. Thank you so much!!! We also enjoyed a traditional Japanese lunch which was very delicious. Buffy

Wonderful exposure to a non touristy area of Osaka.

Wonderful and knowledgeable guide. Great exposure to a non touristy area of Osaka. The guide provided relevant history of the area with maps showing its historical progress. Some of the bridge accesses were steep and tricky.

Unusual and fulfilling ride in Osaka city!

Meeting up with Banri and started our excursion, he is an experienced guide and instructor on how to navigate the canals by ferries and up and down the bridges using the bikes. He is a knowledgeable historian on the change in landscape of the Osaka Bay area over the centuries, the change in the industrial areas and the recent change in town planning around the area. I have experienced the less travelled part of Osaka, the authentic and yet ordinary life of the locals, the public housing, the tsunami gates and barriers in the canals and the surrounding industrial buildings, and the local yummy noodle shop! He is friendly, speaks excellent English and humorous at times. The ride was interesting, challenging in a way and wide-eye open! Highly recommended and would ride again, hopefully in better weather next time.

A Very Different Osaka Experience (In a Good Way!)

Published on Sep, 2024

This bike tour of the Osaka Bay Area was awesome and so much fun! Highly recommended!!! Banri-san is an incredible guide, extremely knowledgeable of the area and it's history. He is also very kind and patient. I hadn't ridden a bike in years so it took a bit to get used to the E-bike but I got the hang of it by the end thanks to his help. We had a lot of great conversations over the course of the tour, he's got a great sense of humor! The route is very interesting. It takes you through parts of Osaka you wouldn't ever go to as a tourist. Heck, even a lot of locals wouldn't normally pass through some of these areas. Riding a bike on all those bridges, taking in the sights of the city from all those different angles, crossing the river on tiny ferries, it was an amazing experience. It was extremely sunny and hot on the day of my tour, so if you decide to book it on such a day like I did, make sure you wear UV protection, a tight hat so it doesn't get blown off on the bridges, and drink plenty of fluids. Despite the heat, I still had a wonderful time, and I would definitely book this tour again just to get to ride the route again. Thank you, Banri-san! I had a blast!
