Overview

Goshuin means a "red seal" is a seal given as a proof of visitation to a shrine or temple. The name of the shrine or temple, the name of the principal image, and the date of the visit are written in ink. You can make an eco-friendly upcycle goshuin book (stamp book) by reusing scraps generated in the kimono manufacturing process, used paper bags and wrapping paper as materials. If you visit shrines and temples with your hand-made Goshuin book, you will have a deeper memory. We will deliver valuable time that can only be experienced in Japan to tourists visiting Japan.

【Activity description】 A craft course which you can make your own original stamp book in Asakusa. Goshuin book (stamp book) is used by visitors to Japanese temples and shrines to commemorate their visit. You can make an eco-friendly upcycle stamp book by reusing scraps generated in the kimono manufacturing process, used paper bags and wrapping paper as materials. Choose your favourite pattern from the materials and make your own favourite stamp book! The staff will support you, so even beginners can enjoy creating. If you visit shrines and temples with your hand-made Goshuin book, you will have a deeper memory. ●What is upcycling It is to give new added value to things and disused items that would normally be discarded, upgrade them to new products, and give them a new life. Upcycling is a keyword that should be paid attention to in order to switch from a consumer society where things are produced and consumed in large quantities to a sustainable society. 【Activity details】 ①Choose your favourite materials which are to paste on the cover. ②Cut and paste it on the cover using the glue. ③Paste the cover and the bellows text together. ④Write a title on the cover.

had so much fun!! was a cute cafe w nice drink options to have while working on the goshuin book. lots of materials to use, and our guide was so friendly and helpful! she was very nice in providing suggestions and assistance, we were the only party so we had plenty of time! great learning experience w a nice souvenir to take and use at shrines! would def recommend and go again thank you!!

We went as a family of 4 with kids (age 8 and 10). The instructor and staff were friendly. Instructor spoke English. The activity was fun and creative. It was nice to make something personalized and also kind to the environment.

Signed up for this not really knowing anything about goushin, or goshuin-cho, the guide explained a bit about the background of it all and the process of making the book. After choosing the fabrics, cutting and gluing, it was nice to see it all come together as a finished book. And I've also been using it to collecting goshuin, so it's given me a really lovely and unique souviner of the holiday.

Patricia was a friendly and enthusiastic guide to this experience. There was a wide range of fun textiles to choose from and the paper quality in the book was very good. I learned a skill that I could do again at home and would make a great gift. The resulting book was very satisfying and the process of making it was fun!

We had a really great time making our Goshuin books, our host was wonderful and we took away something special to look at and remember our time in Japan forever. We headed straight to the nearest temple for our first stamp!
