Another attraction is the German Pharmacy Museum at Heidelberg Castle which shows pharmacies from the 17th till 19th century and stores about 1,000 pharmaceuticals and finally from the huge terrace at Heidelberg Castle you have a wonderful view over Heidelberg city.

Michael was a great guide!

We knew we wanted to do this before going but waited until the last minute to book- we went in January (off season) so we got lucky, but I would not be surprised if this sells out quickly during busier seasons so plan better than we did! The drive to the castle was lengthy but the van has heat/AC so temperature is comfortable and you even get to ride on the Autobahn which wasn't crazy because the guide was driving reasonably, but still cool! The castle was incredibly cool and the guide was always concerned about us, pointing out bathrooms nearby while he got our tickets, offering to take photos of interesting spots, and slipping jokes into the information. Because it was the offseason we were also able to see the Pharmacy museum. Then you walk down to the main shopping area and he gave us an hour or so to do whatever we wanted while he went to get the car, he made recommendations based on what we had told him about ourselves and took a few more pictures before we headed back. He also made recommendations about what we could do the rest of our time in Frankfurt. Would definitely recommend this tour and our guide- Michael!

A revisit after 64 years.

Heidelberg is a beautiful city. I have so many memories of four visits I made as a teenager in the late 1950s. My visit in December 2024 was my first in 64 years! The Altstadt or old town, flanked by the River Neckar and the Heidelberg Castle on the hillside, is beautiful. Hauptstrasse (main street), is the longest pedestrian street in Germany. It was lively, full of shops and restaurants. The Christmas Markets that were located on the street were wonderful. Beautiful squares around the Church of the Holy Spirit and the Corn Market were just two. The illuminated Castle added to the magic. Crossing the iconic Alt Brűcke, walking on Philosophers Way, taking the funicular to the Castle and a cruise on the River Neckar made this visit so memorable.

Great option for day trip from Frankfurt

This is great day trip option when visiting Frankfurt. Our tour guide (unfortunately can't remember his name) was informative and funny. The bus is comfortable ride and short 1 hour ish. The castle is fantastic and provides great views of the town from balcony. There is world's biggest wine barrel which is neat. There is also a pharmacy museum which is great. The old town square, Christmas market and the bridge are all great visit. The tour provided enough free time to do everything + quick lunch. Highly recommended.
