Itinerary
Konak MeydanI
The heart of Izmir beats in Konak, the centre of the city. It covers the areas that form the core of Izmir centres, such as historical Kemeralti, Alsancak, Basmane and Konak Square. At the same time, it is the main source of culture, art and entertainment for the entire Izmir centre.
1 hour
Kizlaragasi Han Bazaar
Kizlaragasi Han is the biggest and most magnificent of the inns in Izmir. It is still of great importance in the commercial life of Izmir as the only example among Ottoman inns in terms of its architectural characteristics. The inn, which is one of the rare Ottoman works in the city, was created in a square form and has a large rectangular courtyard. In the middle of the courtyard, which is approximately 530 square meters, the traditional mosque and fountain do not exist today. The rooms are lined up on the walls of the courtyard. Kizlaragasi Han is a long-distance inn, therefore it was built as two floors. The ground floor was the meeting point of merchants and brokers trading camels, cargo, and the upper floor was used as accommodation. The building, whose originality is controversial after the restoration, is of great importance in Izmir's commercial life.
30 minutes
Kemeralti Market
Kemeralti Bazaar, which is one of the first places to come to mind when talking about places to visit in Izmir, dates back to the 1600s. It has continued to be one of the most important trade areas that has not lost its importance since ancient times. Kemeralti Bazaar consists of 15 thousand workplaces spread over an area of 5 km. This feature makes it the world's largest open-air shopping area.
1 hour
Karsiyaka
Karsiyaka, one of the most popular districts of the city, takes you back with its old Levantine houses and historical structures, while at the same time making you feel that the city lives with its vibrant streets where the movement never ends.
2 hours
Izmir Province
Izmir (Smyrna), which was moved from Bayrakli to today's Kadifekale and its outskirts after the Great Iskerder period, was built inside the fortification walls, which can still be considered largely intact today, starting from Kadifekale and almost no traces remain.
Kemeralti, on the other hand, appeared with the presence of a fortress built to defend the port entrance. Located at the mouth of the harbor and founded by the Byzantines in the 12th century, Izmir Harbor Castle was important both in terms of ensuring the security of the inner harbor and forming a key in the defense of the city. The castle, which is called by different names, was called ‘Neon Kastron’ or ‘Genoese Castle’ in foreign sources, and after it was captured by Christian communities, it was called ‘Castrum Smyrnarum’. This position, St. When Jean was transferred to his Knights, He started to be known with St. Petros Castle.
45 minutes
Agora Open Air Museum
Izmir Agora or Smyrna Agora is today located in the Konak district of Izmir and 4 BC. it is the agora established in the century. It functioned as the state agora of the city in its time. After the earthquake that occurred in 178 AD, it was rebuilt with the support of the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius. Izmir Agora was included in the World Heritage Tentative List in 2020 as part of the heritage area created by UNESCO under the name of “Izmir Historical Port City”. When İzmir was destroyed by an earthquake in AD 178, today's agora was rebuilt with the efforts of Emperor Marcus Aurelius. It is understood that the relief of Goddess Vesta on the northern gate of the Agora is the continuation of the reliefs of the Altar of Zeus unearthed during the early excavations. In addition, besides the statues of God Hermes, Dionysus, Eros, and Heracles; many male, female, and animal statues, reliefs, figurines, marble, bone, glass, metal, and terracotta artifacts.
1 hour
Kordonboyu
When Izmir is mentioned as a Kordon Boyu, the first thing that comes to mind is the azure sea on one side and various cozy cafes on the other. You can meet both your family and friends at the promenade for a coffee in the evening and sip your coffee against an extremely pleasant sea view. With the generality, the meeting point of Izmir locals is the Kordon. When determining the meeting point. it is one of the indispensable points of Young people, especially high school and university students. Especially on a warm spring day or a hot summer sunset, it is almost impossible to find a place on the grass at Kordon Length. People of Izmir understand the value of Izmir once again as the sun sets over Karsiyaka accompanied by a unique view of the Gulf of Izmir.
20 minutes
Tarihi Asansor
The elevator, which is one of the building blocks of the city's identity and gives its name to the district it is located in, is one of the most important historical centers of Izmir. The tower was built in 1907 by Nesim Levi, a businessman of the period, who donated his house for the construction of Karatas Hospital, in the area where the quarries are located.
The Elevator, which is connected by a 155-step staircase, is a street elevator that has been realized with the aim of facilitating transportation between the two axes by connecting the upper and lower parts of the district, Mithatpaşa Street and Şehit Nihat Bey Street, with the universal technology of the period.

Reassuringly The Guides really were excellent in every way welcoming, friendly, extremely helpful, informative, doing their upmost in catering for every wish & desire! You have to visit Izmir.i'd put it right at the top of your Turkish itinerary. A must do.don't pass by this opportunity if you can.you'll savour this beautiful city & its wonderful people.the sights, tastes, sounds & smells will captivate you.the iskender OR bursa kebab lunch was so delicious & my Partner even had a chicken curry at the same restaurant we stopped off at in Izmir which was so appetising full of fresh ingredients! you can even see some of the cooking being done right in front of your very eyes.there's a fair bit of walking involved but well worth it if you're able to manage it.the ferry ride to the other side of Izmir is so delightful.the Male Market Sellers are a bit of a pest though.it feels like every one is trying to persuade you into their business to spend your cash but hey that's part of the Turkey experience.keep moving on & it's fine.wallow in the splendour of one of Turkeys most fab cities

Summer or Winter When to visit?
Published on Jul, 2018
During the summer I don't advise anyone to visit this clock tower area because it's very hot. For night times you can go there and view around. My honest view is nothing much to see there. This tower is surrounded by official buildings. Instead of this area just keep walking on the backside of the tower and go have a coffee at Kizlaragasi Hani. Again saying during the summer don't visit this area when the sun is shining. The only best side of this place is it has a ferry station ( named Konak iskele ) nearby and it will connect you to the other side of the sea ( Karsiyaka ).
