Overview

Travel by jeep to the Troodos mountains, with the opportunity to see the beauty of the wild nature of Cyprus and visit the main shrine of the island-the monastery of Kykkos. On the way to Troodos, we will visit the second largest dam in Cyprus - Asprokremos, and also, one of the four bridges of the Venetian era - Chelefos. We will taste the wines, and visit beautiful waterfall Chantara and on the way back, we will make a stop for bathing at the "stone of Aphrodite" where, according to legend, the goddess of love and beauty was born and went ashore.

  • Asprokremmos Dam

    Asprokremmos dam is the second largest dam in Cyprus. It is built at an altitude of about 100 m above sea level. It is considered an important wetland for endemic and migratory birds

  • Tzelefos Bridge

    Definitely the most known bridge of the island. Its popularity is due to the fact that that it’s the largest stone bridge ever build in Cyprus and goes over river Diarizos. Found in an area of rich green vegetation, the forest area engulfing it is beautiful and has various nature spots to be explored.

  • Chantara Waterfall

    The Hantara waterfall derived its name from the word "anatra" which means "water noise". The water of the waterfall falls violently from a height of eight meters rolling over the gavro, which is one of the main rocks of the area and forming at its base a small pond. Situated in the middle of the countryside, it is surrounded by trees, plane trees, ivy, pine trees, golden oaks, sumac, strawberry trees, cistus, sage and lavender, giving guests wonderful scents.

    It is a popular destination for those who like homemade wine, walks around ancient streets, visits to the traditional rural homes that have been turned into museums and shopping for original art and crafts (e.g. silver jewelry, glass objects, lace-work, sweets and famous Arkatena pretzels). The village’s main attraction is the True Cross Monastery, which houses a piece of the True Cross together with other relics.

Again I’m not sure if these are the guys I booked with, but itinerary looks about the same and so do photos…plus I’m sure these guys won’t object! We were picked up by stelios and his Michael Jackson music collection. He knew a lot about the area and we saw a lot of amazing stuff. Some didn’t happen…winery was missed out (maybe old leaflet) and it was too cloudy to see into northern Cyprus. However, what we got felt better…waterfalls, monastery, parts of the cross, old mosques before the partition, a coffee shop in the mountains, some ridiculously good restaurant with so much food we had dinner sorted too! We even saw snow…in Cyprus! Would it be nice to have the wine visit? Maybe. Would the view into the north have been good…fog permitting yes. But it’s an easy five star.

Well worth a trip with this. Very bumpy when off roading but so much fun. Word of warning though, can get a little cramped in the back and not for people with mobility issues.
