This fun bike tour was one of the highlights of my trip to the Netherlands. Kinderjik is a UNESCO World heritage site where you can see authentic, original, working windmills that are also homes to full time residents who maintain these national treasures. The idyllic area is full of waterways, bridges and bird life that can be viewed and photographed close up. My guide, Marco, lives in Kinderjik with his wife and children. I travelled by train, only 47 minutes from Utrecht and Marco met me at the train station. He knows the Kinderjik area well and took me to beautiful viewpoints and places that I would not have accessed on my own. He also introduced me to some of the people there including a lovely cheese farmer to sample amazing local cheeses. Marco was an attentive, patient, knowledgeable guide, sensitive to my objectives and needs, while also being respectful and aware of the people who live there and the eco systems. He is also good at photography and took some beautifully composed photos for me with my cell phone. The bikes we used are near new and a helmet was even offered too. The flat terrain and well maintained trails are easy to traverse. The tour also provided some high quality Dutch country foods and a great coffee. It was an absolutely perfect relaxing day. Considering everything included—water bus ticket, rental bike, food, admission to the area, and a personal guide it is great value for the money. I feel like I saw the real Holland and not just another tourist trap. Highly recommend (Try to get on a tour with Marco if possible).
