La Leona Waterfall is located in the small town of Curubandé, 20 minutes from Liberia in the province of Guanacaste. La Leona is a unique deep blue waterfall rooted between two canyons. It’s one of the few, if not the only, one in Costa Rica with this characteristic. Its water comes from the “white river” or “Rio Blanco” that finds its source in the skirts of the Volcano Rincon de la Vieja. The color of the water is just amazing, between blue and turquoise, which is explained by the presence of sulfur. It’s definitely a must in this area! Best outfitter for La Leona!

This is my third time hiking the La Leona Waterfall over the last 5 years. Each time we used a different outfitter. This year was the best of all! LLWAH(PT) was the best value for the price. The staff delivered exactly what they promised. The facilities are brand new (just built last year), the location at the junction between the main road and the dirt road to the trail head is excellent, the truck ride into & out of the trail head was in a very comfortable truck, our guide "Bernie" was fun, knowledgeable, & very helpful navigating the high water when necessary. This year the water was the highest I've seen and the flow was extremely powerful, especially in the canyon. The river, the canyon and the waterfall is a powerful being. Big thanks to Bernie! We ate lunch at the little soda a couple doors down from the office. We booked the 7:25 AM tour which was early, but we had the waterfall to ourselves. Many thanks to everyone at LLWAH.

Amazing experience…do not hesitate to book. Our guide Exel was fantastic! Just the right amount of challenge for 3 reasonably fit women in their 50’s.

Axle was our tour guide and he was wonderful. He was knowledgeable, caring and made sure we were safe and enjoying ourselves. It was a perfect combination of challenge and mild hike. Enjoy going down the waterfalls thank you so much. We had a great time.. would highly recommend

What an amazing adventure! We had a great time and Luis was THE BEST tour guide. He did a great job of judging our challenge level and meeting it, and he pointed out so many amazing plants and animals. He was also so much fun. The waterfall was incredible. This was our favorite CR adventure!
