Overview

Fall in love with one of the most impressive cities in the northern region. Guimarães is proudly the cradle of nationality, since in the distant twelfth century, here we gained independence from the kingdom of León, having been established as the capital of the Portucalense County. Since then, the city has maintained its defensive walls, castle, burgh and workers/peasants quarters until the 19th century. Today, we can still marvel at its medieval genesis, with the small squares and narrow streets, in addition to admiring the great monuments and cultural legacy present in every corner of the city. On this visit we will explore the entire area inside and outside the walls, touching on points of interest and curiosities. We also climb by car to the highest point in the surroundings to have the greatest sightseeing spot and discover some hidden gems. If you opt for the sunset/night visit, you will be dazzled with the vibe, lightning and views of the city!

    Palace from the XV century. One of the most visited monuments in north region, and still one of the official residences of the presidency. Admission is optional.

    Medieval castle with foundation on the X century. Visit on surroundings and inside.

  • Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Oliveira

    Church from the X century. Oldest construction in the city. Admission is optional.

    Pedestrian street. Is one of the most beautiful and oldest in town. Full of details and hidden gems.

  • Zona de Couros

    Heritage of leather treatment for the shoe handcraft. Visit on the labour facilities and granite tanks that worked as tanneries.

  • Igreja e Convento de Sao Francisco

    One of the most beautiful church in the city! Admission is optional.

  • Montanha- Parque da Penha

    Penha Park towers over the city, and offers magnificent views with an impressive range of around 40 miles. It is also home to several taverns and places of worship among the locals.

An excellent and comfortable adventure!

Ricardo, our guide, was friendly, professional, knowledgeable, and helpful. He showed us the significant areas and sites of Guimaraes and made sure we were comfortable with plenty of time to enjoy the area. He speaks English which made communicating easy. I recommend his tours and hope to do another one before I depart.

A great way to tour Ppetugal!

Bruno picked us up at our Porto hotel on time - and we were off! We picked up 2 others in Braga - 2 others from the US. The tour was awesome - while Bruno’s expertise is the national parks he was well versed on the history of Guimares as well as Braga - another historical city we asked if could be included. It was just a great way to see two important cities in the history of Portugal. Thank you Bruno!
