Get a Hands-On Experience with Japanese Culture Enhance your journey along the Nakasendo by immersing yourself in Japanese traditions. Choose from one of the following activities: Japanese Calligraphy Matcha Tea Ceremony Sake Tasting at a Traditional Sake Brewery These experiences are available in either Ochiai Post Station Town or Nakatsugawa Post Station Town. Please note that reservations are required at least one week in advance.

Magome Observatory

Travelers can have amazing views of Ena mountain with an elevation of 2191 meters, as well as refreshing air on top of the hill after the walk of steep hill of Magome post town. Taking a bus or calling a car would be one of the options according to traveler's condition.

Ikkokutochi Tateba Tea House

Historic tea house offering visitors a tranquil atmosphere where you can enjoy teas for free of charge. This charming tea house allows you to immerse yourselves in the world of traditional Samurai from 300 years ago. In the room with a Irori (sunken hearth), travelers can find even original sewing machines, or rice grinders etc., from old days.

Feel the glimpse of Japan's past.Tsumago juku is one of the best-preserved post towns along the Nakasendo, ancient route that connected Kyoto and Edo(modern-day Tokyo) during Edo Period. Get the award-winning Sake from local sake brewery. Learn about Japanese traditional architecture in Honjin museum.

Travelers can immerse themselves into Japan's past with its traditional wooden buildings. Excellent tour. Very convenient as guide came with driver to our hotel to pick us up. Knowledgeable guide who speaks good English. Helped customize the tour to our needs. Brought us to the different postal towns and a lovely place locals go for a soba lunch and a local tea house with free sweets and blueberries (free) that was along the way. Towards the end we were also taken to a Mochi shop and the guide knows the town well so she can help you with what you need. I specially was looking for a tour like this. Other guided tours take train and then followed by another bus to the start of the train but thats a lot of stress. Also because this tour has a private car, you do not need to rush to catch the bus and train back to the city so you can stroll the streets and walk the trail at your own pace
