Overview

This cruise ships tour begins at port where you hop on an air-conditioned motor coach for a 20 minutes drive along scenic roads, passing quaint villages on your way to Moin where the Tortuguero Canals begins. Known as Costa Rica’s Amazon because of its surrounding rain forest, the Tortuguero Canal region is rich with exotic flora and fauna. Board your covered boat for a leisurely cruise through the jungle canals. Your guide explains the rain forest eco-system and points out sights of interest. Keep an eye out for wildlife including howler monkeys, sloths, toucans, bats, aquatic birds, iguanas and crocodiles as well as exotic flora. At the end of your cruise, board your waiting transportation for the transfer to Cahuita National Park, where an interesting nature walk and visit into the rain forest awaits for you. Cahuita is famous for its abundant wildlife including monkeys, sloths, toucans, iguanas, coatis, tree snakes and beautiful white san beaches.

This tour is exclusive for cruise ship passengers. If you are not arriving by cruise ship please do not book this tour. Tour operate only when we have cruise ships in port. Pick up is at the main gate entrance of the pier. It is a very short walking distance from ... the cruise ship. Once at the entrance of the pier, you will see a Greenway Tours Guide holding a sign with your name. SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT PICKUP TIME All our pickup times are set to 8:00 AM by default. HOWEVER: If your ship arrives after 8:00 AM, the Pickup will be 30 minutes after ship arrival. You can book your tour and we will adjust the time accordingly with your ship arrival. If you ship is late, our staff will wait for you till the ship dock and allow you disembark. We operate all our tours accordingly with the ship´s arrival. Read more ▼

Cahuita National Park

Cahuita National Park is a terrestrial and marine national park in the Caribbean La Amistad Conservation Area of Costa Rica located on the southern Caribbean coast in Limón Province, connected to the town of Cahuita. Cahuita National Park is unique in Costa Rica for its close relationship with the community, an example of shared management between the community and government for a sustainable development at community level. Participation of park guards and community life stands out through a shared governance management. In this ecosystem, nestled in the Caribbean but with forest environment, you will find species such as raccoons, sloths, iguanas and basilisks. You will also notice snakes like tinsel and tamagá, and birds like the black hawk. Inside the park it is possible to perform recreational sports and hiking the trails, or simply enjoy the beaches swimming or sunbathing

Tortuguero Canal

The canals that lead to the Tortuguero National Park begin in the Puerto Moin sector, just 5 miles from the center of the Limon province. This moin sector has small docks for small boats that make the trip along the Caribbean coast, until they reach their final point in Barra de Colorado. This system of natural and artificial canals made by man, are a tourist attraction because it runs through beautiful sectors of forests, small towns and offers a perfect opportunity to admire a large number of wild animals such as monkeys, sloths, iguanas, alligators, waterfowl and many more.

Puerto Limon

Limón, commonly known as Puerto Limón, is a district, the capital city and main hub of Limón province, as well as of the Limón canton in Costa Rica. It is the seventh largest city in Costa Rica, with a population of over 55,000, and is home of the Afro-Costa Rican community. The pier is located right in front of the city and it is a small town that you can explore easily with a short walk. During our tour, our guide will provide a short city tour where you will be able to learn about its culture, traditions and principal attractions.

6 hour bus tour to Cahuita National Forest, banana plantation and Tortuguera canals with Greenway Tours

This tour was organized well. It was easy in the morning to find the guide who was waiting directly outside the port gate. Franz was a good driver and purchased some small bananas for us to sample while en route to first stop. Joseu was a great guide who used his time wisely and made sure that everyone could participate to the best of their ability. He was attentive, personable and enthusiastic about the country and its many positive attributes. He was very knowledgeable about the local wildlife and plants/trees. Between the three stops, we saw a few monkeys, many sloths, lizards, iguana, a local variety of crocodile and many birds. Franz and Joseu also gave us a short driving tour thru Limon and pointed out some local landmarks. All three tour destinations gave us a good overview of the natural highlights of Costa Rica and a little bit about her people, educational system, economy in a relaxed, low stress setting. I would highly recommend this tour, especially if Joseu is the guide!

This was a really nice tour of the local flora and fauna with numerous stops for local wildlife that we passed along the way, that I otherwise would not have seen or noticed. I really enjoyed the national park!

So glad I chose this tour. It was a mix of walking & boating, providing the best opportunity to see the unique flora & fauna around Limón. The two hour hike through the forest was amazing. Our terrific guide, Luis, made sure we didn’t miss a thing—from exotic spiders, scary vipers, 2 types of monkeys to sloths ! The canal boat ride was shorter but still fun & interesting. Through happenstance we were able to see a rejected baby sloth up close, which was a highlight. Time on the bus was comfortable & informative also, as Luis told us about life in CR—education, history, government, etc. This tour was absolutely worth every penny —highly recommend.
