Overview

The Nitmiluk Gorge is made up of 13 separate gorges. This maze of waterways has been sculpted from the sandstone over countless millennia by the Katherine River. Experience the beauty, history and culture of the Northern Territory’s Nitmiluk National Park.

Meeting points

Tour departs from Nitmiluk National Park Boat Ramp. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to you departure time. Please allow yourself 30 minutes travel time from the township of Katherine to get to Nitmiluk National Park.

Itinerary

Nitmiluk National Park

Once you have boarded, your boat driver and Nitmiluk river guide will explain the ancient heritage of the landscape and its' significance to the Katherine region and the Jawoyn People. Between each gorge, there is a 500-meter walk which will require you to disembark the vessel before joining the boat in the next gorge. Those who choose not to do the walk can sit in provided shaded area. Those who choose to continue to the next gorge will have the opportunity to see ancient rock art between the first and second gorge during their walk.

lol cooling off under the little water fall was great. The guide was friendly and informative. Learning the history and seeing the little bird’s nests in the cave and watching how fast they fly into their nest

Absolutely breathtaking scenery!! The tour guide was fun and very informative. The cruise was just at the start of the wet so there was plenty of waterfalls.

Scenic River Cruise through two beautiful deep gorges. The Skipper was a skillful handler of the boat and told some fun dad jokes. We saw some fresh water crocodiles and had the opportunity to cool off with a wonderful swim (fresh water crocs are small and uninterested in people).

Fabulous guide, so knowledgeable. It was wonderful after viewing the Gorge from the lookout the day before, actually travelling through the two gorges was amazing.
