Meeting points

Meet in this square on Via Laietana, directly in front of the statue of Ramon Berenguer riding triumphantly on his horse. Please arrive at the meeting point 5-10 minutes before the tour starts. At the tour's start time the guide will begin – we have lots to eat and drink!

Itinerary

  • Plaza de Ramon Berenguer el Gran (Pass By)

    The Gótico Food Tour starts here and takes you through Barcelona's famous Ciutat Vella (old city): past roman walls, alongside cathedrals, through precious plazas and, most importantly, in-and-out of small, local restaurants that will leave you sated, jolly and with a better understanding of local Catalan and national Spanish cuisine.

  • Basilica de Santa Maria del Mar (Pass By)

    En route between restaurants we will pass many notable sites in the Gothic Quarter, including the "Catedral Del Mar", which was built between 1329 and 1383 and is an exceptional example of Catalan Gothic style.

  • Muralla Romana (Pass By)

    We will also pass by some of the remnants of the Roman city wall of Barcelona (Muralla Romana), constructed largely in the 3rd century to ward off and protect from invaders.

  • Gothic Quarter (Barri Gotic) (Pass By)

    The whole of our tour is centred around the Gothic Quarter, the oldest part of the city of Barcelona. Its labyrinthine roads, many of which open out onto secluded squares, are now largely pedestrianised. It's an endlessly enchanting neighbourhood, and home to fantastic shops and, of course, some of the very best restaurants.

  • Placa de Sant Jaume (Pass By)

    As we wander between restaurants we will pass through and comment briefly on some of the gorgeous streets and plazas, such as the Plaça de Sant Jaume and the Plaça Sant Just. (The exact route is determined but the mix of restaurants selected for that evening.)

  • El Born / La Ribera (Pass By)

    While the focus of the tour is very much on the iconic Gothic Quarter, we often pass through a few corners of the other beautiful old parts of the Ciutat Vella (Old City): El Born and La Ribera.

Great evening in Barcelona

We had the best evening with Esther. My husband and I are both in the food industry and she was SO knowledgeable….not only about the food but all the history in Barcelona. The restaurants we went to were all authentic and amazing!

A wonderful way to experience not only traditional tapas (in family-owned restaurants) but more than that, also a history tour of old Barcelona with the incomparable Maria as our guide. Truly unforgettable meals and great conversation. Highly recommended. Bring your appetite!

We took this tour at the start of our trip to become familiar with the local cuisine. It was the perfect introduction with a variety of food and wine at three different restaurants. Tito, our guide, was very knowledgeable and entertaining. He clearly does it because he loves food and sharing Barcelona with others. Absolutely wonderful!

One of the best food tours!

This was one of the best food tours I've been on in the world, and I've gone on quite a few. Esther was an amazing tour guide, full of warmth and knowledge and enthusiasm. She showed us around the city, told us about its history, took us to the cutest local spots with the best local food — and made us feel like we were locals for an evening. Absolutely worth doing this! We did a private tour, but I imagine the group ones are also fantastic.
