Touring with Mirette was a great experience in multiple ways. The communication ahead of time was perfect, they gave me ample time to send copies of passports (which are needed in Egypt), and sent me a reminder.
On the day of, they showed up on time, but didn't rush us, as we were late getting off the ship. The guide, Joel, greeted us with great positive energy. They were also great about building the tour around us. We didn't have the time or energy to do all the planned activities, and they adjusted quickly. The van was spacious and comfortable. On the way into Cairo/Giza, the weather was beautiful and we just drove with the windows open. On the drive from Port Said, Joel was great about describing what we saw on the way, giving context and history.
At the pyramids, we were able to get through the security area very quickly and park closer to the pyramids than others. Joel was great about both giving us information, but also letting us wander. He also let us know ahead of time that the climb in the big pyramid is steep and cramped and he wouldn't recommend it. (for a claustrophobic, this was critical advance info!)
One of the biggest things I appreciated about Mirette and Joel was that they watched the time. We were running late from the pyramids, so Joel guided the driver to just do a quick stop at the Sphinx. We got as much time as we wanted, and then we zoomed on to lunch. Joel was also well-informed about overall delays affecting our cruise ship. As we kept getting stopped at Egyptian security checkpoints, Joel knew that this was happening to all the cruise ship passengers that day. Even though our private tour with Mirette was not coordinated with the cruise line, Mirette got us to the ship at exactly the same time the official cruise excursions did. I was super impressed.
The only two suggestions I'd give Mirette is that the restaurant, while good, felt like it could have been better, even if we ourselves had to pay. For example, while in Alexandria (not related to Mirette or this tour), we went to Branzino, which was unbelievably delicious. I'm sure Cairo has amazing restaurants, and I would love to have visited one.
The other suggestion I'd give would be more proactive communication about what was going on with security delays (again, to be clear, those delays weren't Mirette's fault, they just seem to be an Egyptian process). On the drive back to the cruise ship, Joel (who spoke English) didn't join us. The driver didn't speak English and we were a little bit worried about whether we'd make it back on time. Though Mirette was clearly on top of the situation, a text message would have helped me stay calm.
Overall, highly recommend them, and I'd work with them again.
