Having never climbed a mountain before, Jack our guide was exceptionally patient with us!
He was knowledgeable, reassuring, had all the appropriate hiking gear with him and made us feel safe from the moment he picked us up from our B&B.
He allowed us to set the pace and constantly checked to make sure we weren’t overly fatigued and were happy to continue.
I won’t lie - the climb up was hard but the climb down was harder as we knew it would be! Jack has exceptional people skills and could read when we wanted to be quiet and concentrate on where we were placing our feet as well as asking us questions and providing excellent commentary on the area and the geography when we were more relaxed - his knowledge of the local area was excellent.
Towards the end, us as unseasoned climbers were getting very fatigued and were making mistakes. My partner slipped and fell (luckily landed on her backpack) and I twisted my hip by slipping in the snow - all totally our fault but par for the course after 7 hours + of hiking! Jack was very patient, asked if we were ok to continue and constantly checked we were feeling ok.
We made it down in one piece and Jack kindly drove us back to where we were staying.
It was an excellent experience, not for the faint hearted but definitely worth the effort and it was made all the more special by Jack’s tuition and guidance.
We would definitely do it again (once we’ve recovered the use of our legs!) and would recommend Jack as a guide to anyone who likes the mountains and wants a great day out!
Thank you Jack and well done!
