This square is located in the heart of Rome, at the end of the Via del Corso. From here it's only a short walk to some of Rome's most famous sights like the Capitoline Hill, the Roman Forum and the Pantheon. And most of all, you can admire the impressive Monument dedicated to the king Victor Emmanuel
Located between the Aventino and Palatine Hill, the Circus Maximus was the largest stadium in ancient Rome built for chariot races. Roman circuses were the most important centres of entertainment in the Roman cities, apart from the theatres and amphitheatres. They were extended precincts in which the public games were held, consisting of chariot races and different spectacles. The Circus Maximus in Rome (Circo Massimo), located between the Aventino and Palatine Hills, was an extended precinct with space for 300,000 spectators. The arena, which measured 600 meters in length and 225 meters in width, made the Circus Maximus the largest in Rome, ahead of the Circus of Flaminius and the Circus of Maxentius.
Inaugurated in 1911 to pay respect to Victor Emmanuel II, the Monumento Nazionale a Vittorio Emanuele II (Altare della Patria) is an imposing building located in Piazza Venezia. It provides some breath-taking views of Rome.

The Roman Pantheon is the monument with the greatest number of records: the best preserved, with the biggest brick dome in the history of architecture and is considered the forerunner of all modern places of worship. It is the most copied and imitated of all ancient works.

Located 40 meters above the Roman Forum, the Palatine Hill is the most central of the seven hills of Rome and forms one of the oldest parts of the city. The Palatine Hill is considered to be the birthplace of the Italian capital and is believed to have been inhabited since the year 1000 B.C. During the Republican Period Roman citizens belonging to the upper class settled in the Palatine Hill and built sumptuous palaces, of which important traces are still preserved.
Even among Rome’s fabulous and fetching collection of sights, one particularly photogenic landmark seems to attract most adoration from snap-happy travelers: the Spanish Steps.

Trevi Fountain is the most beautiful fountain in Rome. Measuring some 20 meters in width by 26 meters in height, Trevi Fountain is also the largest fountain in the city.

With over 6 million annual visitors, the Vatican Museums are one of the most-popular attractions in Rome. Established by Pope Julius II during the sixteenth century, it houses thousands of works of art. The origins of these museums go back to 1503, the year in which the recently named Pope Julius II donated his private collection. Since that moment private families and other popes have enlarged the collection of the museums to the point where it has become one of the largest in the world. At present, the Vatican Museums receive more than 6 million visitors annually, although without doubt, one of the reasons for this is that they form the entrance to the Sistine Chapel.

The Sistine Chapel is one of the greatest treasures of the Vatican City, of Rome and of the world in general. It is known as much for its decoration, as for being the temple in which popes are chosen and crowned. The construction of the building was carried out between 1473 and 1481 during the mandate of Pope Sixtus IV, to whom it owes its current name. The architect responsible for the construction was Giovanni of Dolci and it is the only work that he is remembered for. What grabs the attention in the Sistine Chapel is not its architecture, but the frescoes that completely cover the walls and the ceiling. Some of the most important artists who worked in the chapel are Botticelli, Perugino, Luca and Michelangelo.

The Papal Basilica of St. Peter in the Vatican (Italian: Basilica Papale di San Pietro in Vaticano), or simply St. Peter's Basilica (Latin: Basilica Sancti Petri), is a church built in the Renaissance style located in Vatican City, the papal enclave which is within the city of Rome. Clear filterAMAZING day in Rome
Published on Dec, 2024
We had an amazing day in Rome with Francesco as our driver! We did the Vatican on our own the day prior. Francesco picked us up at our hotel and we were off to the Coliseum. Our day was packed—Roman Forums, pantheon, all the Basilicas, Treve Fountain, Spanish steps, shopping in luxury retail district. He gave us a dinner suggestion which ended up being the best meal of our trip. Francesco was very knowledgeable, funny, very kind. Four women traveling together and we felt very safe . I wish this service had been available in every port of call on our Viking Iconic Mediterranean cruise—it would have been well worth the money. Will definitely use this service again for our next trip back to Rome.

Our guide was wonderful. He provided a lot of information, history and pictures of before and after of some of the sites. He let us go at our pace and made sure we saw all the important places. He did a great job. We had a wonderful lunch and took some great pictures. I would highly recommend.
No time is wasted with Rome in Limo - they are efficient and fun!

We are so happy we used Rome in Limo for our bucket list stops in Naples and Rome during our Mediterranean cruise. Jany was communicative about our bookings and never left me hanging for a response. Daniele in Naples drove us to Pompeii to meet our private guide, Francesco. Next we were driven to Cantina del Vesuvio for lunch, and finally we were dropped off to hike to the crater of Mt. Vesuvius, which is just awesome. It was lovely to talk with Daniele about life in that area all along the way. We also enjoyed spending the day with Piero in Rome. He drove us around to a number of ruins/highlights and explained the significance. He taught us a lot, and he had a great sense of humor, too! He then put us in the capable hands of a great private Vatican guide, Chiara, who made sure we saw so much amazing art and architecture without getting lost. If you are interested in getting the most bang for your buck during a cruise port day in Italy, I highly recommend Rome in Limo. Both drivers were easy to find at the respective ports, and both kept aware of any ship schedule changes or traffic that could delay return to the port. We only had a few hours in each location, but not a minute was wasted and at no time were we worried about "missing the boat." Most importantly, we met these incredible human beings who love to show off their cities and connect with other people. And they made us want to come back and visit again!
A Day to Remember

We have used Rome in Limo several times over the past few cruises to set up private tours in Rome and Florence. Our experiences have always been outstanding. We have done the highlight and classic tours of Rome and Florence as well ones that are little more off the beaten track and all have been amazing. Jany is extremely patient and knowledgeable in helping plan the day that works for you. The drivers have all been professional, friendly and knowledgeable as well. On our recent tour in Rome, Stephane was our driver and he made the day so special. We chatted about where we had been before, what we'd like to see again and he took us to some new places that were such a treat. The whole day was relaxing and fun and we had such a wonderful day enjoying the sights of Rome. Thank you Rome in Limo -- we look forward to seeing you again sometime! Cruise Date: October 29 2024 on NCL Escape
Rome and the Vatican
Published on Nov, 2024
We had a wonderful day in Rome with our driver Nick. He was prompt and navigated us around the busy roads of Rome while showing us many highlights. He was very knowledgeable. We then joined a private Vatican guide, Tiziana. She helped us all through the Vatican and was so interesting! Jany was amazing in making all of the arrangements for us! Great company!
